Patrick HANRAHAN died. Patrick married Ellen STACK.

Ellen STACK died. Ellen married Patrick HANRAHAN.

They had the following children.

F i Catherine (Kate) HANRAHAN was born on 26 Dec 1879. She died on 16 Mar 1965.

Thomas (Tom) HAYES [Parents] was born on 5 Oct 1856 in Fairy Street, Templeathea, Athea, Co. Limerick. He died on 25 May 1918 in Templeathea, Athea, Co. Limerick. He was buried in Templeathea Cemetery, Co. Limerick. Thomas married Hanora (Johanna) HUDSON on 22 Feb 1881 in Newtownsandes (Moyvane), Co. Kerry.

Tom was an only child. His baptismal sponsors were Thomas Hayes and Helen Hayes.

The 1911 census tells us that Tom and his wife, Johanna, had been married for 30 years and had 10 children born alive, seven of whom were still alive at the time of the census.

A Daniel Hayes of Templeathea, who died on 3 April 1973 aged 80, is buried in Templeathea Churchyard. Could Daniel have been related to Tom's family? Daniel's wife, Mary (Molly), who died on 20 January 1989 aged 98, is buried with him.

Hanora (Johanna) HUDSON [Parents] was born about 1 May 1860 in Kilbaha, Newtownsandes (Moyvane), Co. Kerry. She was christened on 3 May 1860 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. She died on 1 Mar 1932 in Templeathea, Athea, Co. Limerick. She was buried in Templeathea Cemetery, Co. Limerick. Hanora married Thomas (Tom) HAYES on 22 Feb 1881 in Newtownsandes (Moyvane), Co. Kerry.

I am making an assumption that Johanna was Hanora Hudson, daughter of Edmond and Nora Hudson, who was baptised on 3 May 1860. We know that Johanna was born about 1860 and I have been given the same date of death for both a Johanna and a Hanora Hudson, daughter of Edmund and Nora Hudson, which makes me think that they are the same person. I have therefore combined the information I have on both. If Hanora and Johanna are the same person it could be that, although Hanora/Johanna was christened Hanora, she was called Johanna after her older sister named Johanna who was born about 1857 and died in 1865, when Hanora was five.

Sponsors at Hanora's baptism were Cornelius Shanahan and Mary Shanahan. We have not managed to locate a baptism record for a Johanna Hudson born around this time to Edmond and Nora Hudson so we are assuming that Hanora's date of baptism and the sponsors named above are those of Johanna.

Johanna's niece Bridget Hudson would marry James Hayes, a second cousin of Johanna's husband, Tom Hayes.

Marriage Notes:

Witnesses were Michael Hayes and William Hudson.

They had the following children.

F i Catherine (Katie) HAYES was born on 9 Dec 1881.
  F ii
Honora (Nora) HAYES was born on 24 Feb 1883 in Fairy Street, Templeathea, Athea, Co. Limerick. She was christened on 26 Feb 1883 in Athea, Co. Limerick. She died on 16 Oct 1913 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was buried on 18 Oct 1913 in Christ Our Redeemer Cemetery, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Sponsors at Nora's baptism were Jeremiah Hudson and Johanna Hudson.

Nora appears to have emigrated to the United States around 1906. She was working as a servant for a William Cohn of Marlborough Ave., Pittsburgh at the time of the 1910 census and it seems she returned to Ireland on a visit in 1911 as Ellis Island records show she sailed from Queenstown on 6 October of that year . She was travelling with a Hannah Cooney whose husband Patrick lived at 855 Kirkpatrick St. in Pittsburg. Hanora also gave Patrick as her American contact on the ship manifest. Both Nora and Hannah stated that they had previously been in the U.S. and had been in Pittsburgh in 1906.

Sadly, Nora, who was unmarried, died from drowning at the age of 30. Her death certificate states that her death was "probably suicide" and tells us she was found "at a point between the Allegheny and Mononahela rivers" in Pittsburgh. Her address at the time was 1104 Progress St., Pittsburgh and the informant was a Patrick Cooney of 1604 Progress St., presumably the same Patrick Cooney mentioned above. Nora's brother John had died in a drowning accident in Ireland five years earlier.
M iii Michael (Mick) HAYES was born on 3 Oct 1884. He died on 27 Nov 1973.

Tom's baptismal sponsors were Michael Moran and Ann O'Connor.

Tom became a priest. He left Ireland for the U.S. on 20 September 1920 and served in Mississippi. His first posting was Natchez; by 1930 he had moved to Laurel; and by 1940 he was in Pass Christian, where he died in 1962 aged about 67.
M ix Edmund (Ned) HAYES was born on 10 Dec 1895.

Margaret (Madge) HAYES was born on 26 Jan 1898 in Fairy Street, Templeathea, Athea, Co. Limerick. She was christened on 27 Jan 1898 in Athea, Co. Limerick. She died on 14 Nov 1983 in Abbeyfeale, Co. Limerick.

'unknown' SHEEHAN (female) died.

James Edward HUDSON [Parents] was born on 10 Aug 1876 in Carlton, Victoria. He died on 17 Mar 1943 in St. Vincent's Hospital, Melbourne. He was buried in Fawkner Cemetery, Victoria. James married Hanora (Nora) LANE on 30 Sep 1902 in Sacred Heart Church, Carlton, Victoria.

James was orphaned before the age of two, his parents having died six months apart. He also lost his infant brother, Edward, not long afterwards. It is not known who raised James but he did have an aunt, Brigid Hudson, who also lived in Victoria, or he may have been brought up by a family by the name of Lane. It appears that after the death of James's father and not long before she herself died, his mother, Annie, and her two young sons moved in with the family of either Maurice Lane (who would become James's father-in-law many years later) or the family of James Lane (presumably related to Maurice), so it might be that one of these Lane families took on the responsibilty of the boys after Annie's death.

According to his marriage certificate James was working as a cellarman at the time (1902). He and his wife, Nora (née Lane), lived with their family at 602 Dawson St., West Brunswick, Victoria. From about 1924 until 1940, when he retired, he was a member of the Brunswick council and served as mayor of Brunswick from 1929 to 1930. James also worked as an organiser for Electrical Trades' Union for 30 years, becoming a member of the Federal council of the union, and was Chief Ranger of the Brunswick branch of the Irish National Foresters, a friendly society set up to support Irish nationalism and provide financial and social services to its members.

Note: James's paternal grandmother was Nora O'Connor from Rathoran, Duagh, and his mother-in-law was Bridget O'Connor, also from Rathoran. Were Nora and Bridget related?
