F v Mary (Sr. Mercedes) MULVIHILL

Michael MULVIHILL died before 20 Jan 1951. He married Hanora 'UNKNOWN'.

I'm told Michael may be related to the Cunninghams of Kilbaha, Moyvane, to whom I'm connected but I'm unsure as how. It's possible the connection is through my great-great-great-aunt Biddy Cunningham who in 1861 married a John Mulvihill (from Aughrim, Moyvane).

Hanora 'UNKNOWN' died 30 Jan 1951 in Listowel, Co. Kerry and was buried in Murhur Cemetery, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. She married Michael MULVIHILL.

Prior to her death Hanora was living in Burntwood, Listowel. It's known that she and Michael had granchildren Fr. D.B. Mulvihill (a curate in Portlaoise, Co. Laois), Sr. Magdalen (in Killeshandra, Co. Cavan) and Mother M.J. Ursula (in the Brigidine Convent, Tullow, Co. Carlow) but it's not known if they were the children of their son Ned or of another child we don't know about.

They had the following children:

  M i Edmond (Ned) MULVIHILL died 18 Feb 1972.
M ii Jeremiah MULVIHILL died 23 Aug 1968.

Sr. Anne Joseph MULVIHILL was born in probably Shronowen, Listowel, Co. Kerry. She died 1992 in probably Kansas.

Sr. Anne Joseph was a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph order in Concordia, Kansas. It's known that around the 1940s or 1950s she was Superior of the High School in Tipton, Kansas.
  M iv
Daniel B. MULVIHILL was born in probably Shronowen, Listowel, Co. Kerry. He died after 18 Feb 1972 in probably Kansas.

Daniel was a priest and served in the diocese of Concordia (which became the diocese of Salina in 1944) in Kansas. It's known that from 1930 until 1943 he was pastor in St. Patrick's parish in Lincoln County, Kansas, and in 1951 he was a parish priest in Plainville, Kansas. It's believed Daniel, his brother Fr. Michael and their sister, Sr. Anne Joseph, went to Concordia because they had a distant cousin, John Francis Cunningham, who was Bishop of Concordia (from 1898 until his death in 1919).

Bishop Cunningham also had two other distant cousins who also joined him in Concordia: Johanna (Sr. Mary Ellen) Cunningham and her sister Margaret (Sr. Mary Estelle) joined the Sisters of St. Joseph in Concordia after their arrival in the United States in 1915. It's possible therefore that the Cunningham sisters were related to the Mulvihill siblings in Kansas, possibly through the sisters' great-aunt Biddy Cunningham who married a John Mulvihill from Aughrim, Moyvane. It's possible John may have been connected to the Mulvihills in Kansas but we have absolutely no proof of this.
  M v
Michael M. MULVIHILL was born in probably Shronowen, Listowel, Co. Kerry. He died before 18 Feb 1972 in probably Kansas.

Michael, like his brother Daniel, was a priest, ministering in the Concordia diocese of Kansas. About 1912 he served briefly as a pastor in St. Patrick's parish in Lincoln County, Kansas, where his brother Daniel would later serve as a pastor.
M vi Patrick MULVIHILL died 1951.
