Eugene O'SULLIVAN [Parents] was born 1 Apr 1893 in Glynn, Mourneabbey, Co. Cork and was christened 3 Apr 1893 in Analeentha Church, Mourneabbey, Co. Cork. He died 31 Dec 1988 in Wahroonga, NSW. Eugene married Jane MCCLELLAND on 1925 in Queensland.

According to Eugene's birth certificate, a Bridget Connell was present at his birth. The certificate also tells us Eugene was born on 6 April 1893, but according to his family he was born on 1 April 1893, which ties in with baptismal information from the Mallow Heritage Centre which tells us he was christened on 3 April. Baptismal certificates were normally more reliable than birth certificates in those days as baptisms were registered on the day whereas births were often registered weeks after the event when exact birth dates were often remembered inaccurately. Sponsors at Eugene's baptism were John Doody and Ellen Cashman. The given name on Eugene's baptismal certificate is "Owen" ("Owen" is an equivalent of "Eugene"). In the 1901 census, Eugene is listed as "Ewen".

In 1914, at the age of 20, Eugene emigrated to Australia, never to return to Ireland. On the voyage (which cost him £12) he chose to work on board, unlike many of the other men, and was consequently quite fit when the ship docked in Melbourne. As a result he was quickly offered a job as a farm labourer. I'm unsure as to the location of the farm, but Eugene certainly spent most, if not all, of his initial years in Australia labouring on sugar cane farms in Queenland, eventually buying a small sugar cane farm of his own. He was later able to purchase a larger one in Innisfail (near Cairns) in Queensland.

After many years in Innisfail Eugene moved to the Sydney area where he and his wife, Jane, lived in the suburb of Wahroonga with their daughter, Mary, and her family.

Jane MCCLELLAND was born 5 Oct 1902 in Belfast. She died 22 Sep 1994 in Sydney. Jane married Eugene O'SULLIVAN on 1925 in Queensland.
