A baptismal record has been located (on www.irishgenealogy.ie) for a Catherine Shine, daughter of Daniel Shine and Mary Mulvihill of Kilbaha, who was baptised in Moyvane on 15 October 1836. This date fits in with the approximate year of birth of Catherine above, calculated from her age given in the 1911 census, so it is a possibility that Catherine above and the Catherine baptised in October 1836 are the same person. However, Shine was a common surname in Kilbaha at the time so we would need further evidence to prove this.

If Catherine is indeed a daughter of Daniel Shine and Mary Mulvihill, Shine researchers mught be interested in the following information on Daniel's family:

Daniel was one of three sons born to Cornelius Shine from Co. Limerick who settled in Kilbaha. Daniel's brothers were John and Cornelius. Daniel inherited the Kilbaha farm and he and his wife (i.e., Mary Mulvihill) had at least seven children, including Cornelius (born in 1830), Honora (1832), Johanna (1833), Catherine (1836), Patrick (1840), William (1843) and John (year of birth unknown). Daniel and Mary's son Cornelius, who inherited the farm, married Catherine (surname unknown) about 1868 and had nine children, including William, Maurice, Mary, Michael and James.

Daniel and Mary's son Patrick was a teacher and lived in Carhoona, Tarbert, Co. Kerry; their son William was a Presentation brother and lived in Cork, and their son John lived in Ahanagran, Ballylongford, Co. Kerry.

Getting back to Catherine above, according to the 1911 census, she and her husband, William Foran, had been married 40 years and had five children born alive, four of whom were alive at the time of the census.

They had the following children.

F i Mary FORAN was born about 1873. She died after 1950.
