'UNKNOWN'

They had the following children:

  M i Vincent FINNIGAN

Francis (Frank) FINNIGAN [Parents] died date unknown in U.S.. He married Lucy 'UNKNOWN'.

Other marriages:
'UNKNOWN', Margaret

When Frank or his father emigrated to the United States (we don't know who it was who left Ireland), he changed his surname to Finnigan because of spelling and pronunciation difficulties the non-Irish had with the Finucane name.

Lucy 'UNKNOWN' died date unknown in probably U.S.. She married Francis (Frank) FINNIGAN.

A Francis Finucane of Ballyhorgan, Lixnaw, Co. Kerry married a Lucy Steles in Lixnaw on 12 February 1834. Could this Lucy have been our Lucy above? Witnesses to the marriage were Simon Beasly and Michael King. This Francis and Lucy who married in 1834 had a son named John who was baptised on 19 June 1837. On John's baptismal record on www.irishgenealogy.ie, Lucy's surname is Styles and the family's address is Ballygologue, Listowel, Co. Kerry.

They had the following children:

F i Mary FINNIGAN died date unknown.

Alexander (Alex) DIAMOND died date unknown. He married Mary FINNIGAN.

Alex was a magistrate in Philadelphia.

Mary FINNIGAN [Parents] died date unknown. She married Alexander (Alex) DIAMOND.

Francis (Frank) FINNIGAN [Parents] died date unknown in U.S.. He married Margaret 'UNKNOWN'.

Other marriages:
'UNKNOWN', Lucy

When Frank or his father emigrated to the United States (we don't know who it was who left Ireland), he changed his surname to Finnigan because of spelling and pronunciation difficulties the non-Irish had with the Finucane name.

Margaret 'UNKNOWN' was born in Ireland. She married Francis (Frank) FINNIGAN.

They had the following children:

  F i Margaret FINNIGAN was born 1842 and died 25 Nov 1919.

John FINUCANE was born 1754 in Carhoonakineely, Tarbert, Co. Kerry. He died about 1803 in probably Carhoonakineely, Tarbert, Co. Kerry and was buried in Kilnaughtin Cemetery, Tarbert, Co. Kerry. John married Catherine (Kate) LYNCH.

According to William (Bill) Hudson's work 'The Hudsons of County Kerry and their Descendants' (written in 1960 and available in the National Library of Ireland in Dublin and in Tralee and Listowel libraries in Co. Kerry), our Finucane family is connected to the family of John above who, sometime in the 19th century, divided his large farm in Ardmore between two sons [no names are given]. One of these sons was the grandfather of Pat Finucane of Farranawanna who helped Bill with his Finucane research in the late 1950s. Pat told Bill that his (Bill's) great-grandmother (who was my great-great-great grandmother) Margaret Finucane was a sister of the two sons who got the land in Ardmore, and therefore a daughter of John above. Unfortunately no documented evidence has been found to support this.

Other Finucane research has been carried out by Brian and Kieran Sheehan from Dublin (see their Sheehan Family Tree website www.sheehanfamilytree.ie/home.asp) on the family history of their Finucane ancestors from Ardmore, Carhoonakinella (presumably a variant of Carhoonakineely). This Finucane family is the same as that of John above who divided his land between his sons as it includes Pat Finucane of Farranawanna. However no mention is made of Margaret Finucane.

Further doubt arises from the fact that 'The Hudsons of County Kerry' also tells us that it's possible Margaret was a daughter of (perhaps another?) John Finucane who lived in Ardmore around the same time but whose only known children were John and possibly Francis. Given the Ardmore connection, they may be the same family as the Finucanes described in the first paragraph above. However John, son of John and possible brother of Francis, emigrated to the United States whereas John, son of John who divided the land, remained in Ireland. It's possible Margaret is related to one or both of these families but I'm unable to make a definite connection. If anyone has any further information on any Finucane family from Carhoonakineely, I would be very grateful if you would get in touch by emailing Helen@HelensFamilyTrees.com. Thank you.

Note that the Sheehan Family Tree website site also provides information on the O'Connor family of Gortdromasillihy in Moyvane and the Hill, also in Moyvane (a Jackie O'Connor having divided his farm in the late 19th century between two sons, Cornelius who received land in Gortdromasillihy and Jackie who got the farm at the Hill). Other valuable information on the site relates to the Sheehan, Kavanagh and Byrne families from the Woodenbridge area of Co. Wicklow.

Catherine (Kate) LYNCH was born in Coolnanoonagh, Tarbert, Co. Kerry. She died date unknown. Catherine married John FINUCANE.

A Thomas Finucane and his wife, Mary Connor, raised a family in Carhoonakineely. It's possible he was connected to Kate above and her husband, John. In case they are related, we can tell you that Thomas and Mary had at least four children: Patrick (born in 1829), John (1832), Catherine (1836) and Thomas (1840).

They had the following children:

M i John FINUCANE was born 1795 and died 1850.
M ii Thomas FINUCANE died possibly 1849.
  M iii
Daniel (Dan) FINUCANE was born in Ardmore, Carhoonakineely, Tarbert, Co. Kerry.

We have no further information on Dan although there's a Daniel Finucane listed in Griffiths Valuation (1851/52) who jointly leased land in Carhoonakineely with a John Finucane.

We also know (from www.irishgenealogy.ie) that a Daniel Finucane of Ardmore, Carhoonakineely who was married to an Ann Langan had at least four children (all born in Ardmore): Margaret (born in 1824), Thomas (1828), Daniel (1831) and Hanora (1834). There was also a Daniel Finucane of 'Carhunakinela' who was married to a Mary Buckley and who had sons named Patrick (born in 1844) and Michael (1845).  Could one of these Daniels be Dan above?

Thomas FINUCANE [Parents] was born in Ardmore, Carhoonakineely, Tarbert, Co. Kerry. He died possibly 1849. Thomas married Mary QUINN.

According to Bill Hudson's work 'The Hudsons of County Kerry and their Descendants', a John Finucane of Ardmore in Carhoonakineely in Tarbert divided his large farm between two sons [no names were given], one of whom died in 1849 and was the grandfather of Pat Finucane (1885-1963) of Farranawanna who gave the above information to Bill. Thomas above was Pat's grandfather so we can say that Thomas inherited a portion of his father's land. From the Sheehan Family Tree website (www.sheehanfamilytree.ie/home.asp), we know that Thomas had two brothers, John (1795-1850) and Dan (1810-?), but we don't know who received the remaining parcel of land.

Mary QUINN died date unknown. She married Thomas FINUCANE.

There's a problem with the dates of birth of Mary and Thomas's children below. If Thomas was born in 1818 then the year of birth (1828) of Daniel is incorrect. Although it would have been possible for Thomas to have had children in 1869 and 1886 (Maria and Margaret), it would not have been possible for Mary to have given birth over a period of nearly five decades, assuming Patsy's year of birth (1839) is correct. Also, since it's possible Thomas died in 1848, he could not have had children born in 1869 and 1886.

They had the following children:

  M i
John FINUCANE was born about 30 Jul 1825 in Ardmore, Carhoonakineely, Tarbert, Co. Kerry and was christened 1 Aug 1825 in Ballylongford, Co. Kerry.

No baptismal sponsors were recorded.
M ii William FINUCANE died date unknown.
M iii Daniel (Dan) FINUCANE was born 1828 and died 1891.
  F iv

Catherine FINUCANE was born about 12 Apr 1831 in Ardmore, Carhoonakineely, Tarbert, Co. Kerry and was christened 14 Apr 1831 in Ballylongford, Co. Kerry.
