Thomas (Tom) Francis GORDON [Parents] was born on 19 Jan 1877 in Kilgarriff, Fairymount, Co. Roscommon. He died on 4 Jan 1948 in Birkenhead, Cheshire. Thomas married Margaret BLAKELEY on 4 Jul 1904 in Our Lady of Lourdes and St. Bernard's Church, Kingsley Road, Toxteth Park, Liverpool.

Tom was a dairy keeper (according to his marriage certificate) and later greengrocer (according to the 1911 census). His address at the time of his marriage (in 1904) was 81 New Ferry Road, New Ferry, Merseyside, and by the time of the 1911 census he was living at 54 Watson St. in Birkenhead. The 1939 Register tells us he was living at the time at 14 Euston Grove, Birkenhead, and at the time of his death in 1948 his address was 47 Clee Hill Road, Prenton, Birkenhead.

Margaret BLAKELEY [Parents] was born on 17 Nov 1885 in Toxteth Park, Liverpool. She died after 4 Jan 1948. Margaret married Thomas (Tom) Francis GORDON on 4 Jul 1904 in Our Lady of Lourdes and St. Bernard's Church, Kingsley Road, Toxteth Park, Liverpool.

Margaret's address at the time of her marriage in 1904 was 34 Exe St., Toxteth Park, Liverpool.

The 1939 Register tells us that Leonard was a "shop manager (greengrocer)". Could he have taken over the running of his father's shop?

John Joseph CLARKE [Parents] was born on 31 Jul 1885 in Castlemore, Co. Mayo. He was christened on 9 Aug 1885 in Ballaghaderreen, Co. Roscommon. He died in 1975 in probably England. John married Ellen (Nellie) 'UNKNOWN' before Sep 1939.

John qualified as a doctor in London. He is listed as a medical student in the 1911 census as a boarder in a house in Hackney, London and by 1939 he and his young family were living at 285 Church Road, Mitcham, Surrey.

Ellen (Nellie) 'UNKNOWN' was born on 24 Jan 1903. She died. Ellen married John Joseph CLARKE before Sep 1939.

Herbert Eustace (Bertie) CLARKE [Parents] was born on 24 Apr 1887 in Castlemore, Co. Mayo. He was christened on 6 May 1887 in Ballaghaderreen, Co. Roscommon. He died on 28 Jun 1945 in 400 Chapel Road, Bankstown, New South Wales, Australia. He was buried in Catholic Cemetery, Rookwood, NSW. Herbert married Aidita (Ada) Clare RICKARDS in 1913 in Sydney, Australia.

Bertie qualified as a doctor in Dublin. He joined the Royal Army Medical Corps and it is known that he worked as a doctor in the London area for a time before moving to Australia. He lived in Leonora, Western Australia for many years, working at the Leonora District Hospital. Electoral Rolls tells us he was resident in Leonora in 1937 but had moved to Bankstown (400 Chapel Road), New South Wales by 1943.

Aidita (Ada) Clare RICKARDS [Parents] was born about 1884. She died on 12 Oct 1981. She was buried on 20 Oct 1981 in Catholic Cemetery, Rookwood, NSW. Aidita married Herbert Eustace (Bertie) CLARKE in 1913 in Sydney, Australia.

Ada may have been a nurse.

Desmond Patrick W. CLARKE was born about 1915 in Australia. He died in 1969 in St. Leonards, Sydney, Australia.

Joseph (Joe) P. DOYLE [Parents] was born on 21 Oct 1890 in probably New Ross, Co. Wexford. He died after 1960 in London. Joseph married Gertrude (Gertie) M. CLARKE.

Joe and his wife, Gertie, got to know each other in St. Vincent's Hospital in Dublin where Joe's father was a patient and Gertie was a nurse. Gertie's aunt Sr. Jerome Gordon, who also worked in the hospital, apparently engineered their union: she instructed Gertie to look after Joe's father after Gertie's first cousin Kathleen O'Hara, a previous carer of Joe's father, had married Joe's brother Arthur (a result, it is believed, of another match-making effort by Sr. Jerome).

Joe was a doctor. He and Gertie, who had no children, moved to London where it is known they were living at 40 Melbourne Avenue, Ealing in 1939.

Gertrude (Gertie) M. CLARKE [Parents] was born on 16 Nov 1890 in Castlemore, Co. Mayo. She was christened on 23 Nov 1890 in Ballaghaderreen, Co. Roscommon. She died about 1960 in London. Gertrude married Joseph (Joe) P. DOYLE.

Gertie was a nurse. Prior to her marriage she worked in St. Vincent's Hospital in Dublin. She and her husband, Joe, a doctor, later settled in London where Gertie worked in Joe's practice.


Arthur Joseph DOYLE was born about 1853 in New Ross, Co. Wexford. He died on 11 Oct 1925. He was buried in St. Stephen's Cemetery, New Ross, Co. Wexford. Arthur married Mary Jane 'UNKNOWN'.

It is believed that Arthur was a farmer and coal importer in the New Ross area.

Mary Jane 'UNKNOWN' was born about 1863. She died on 13 May 1894. She was buried in St. Stephen's Cemetery, New Ross, Co. Wexford. Mary married Arthur Joseph DOYLE.

Mary Jane was only 30 years of age when she died.

Andrew MCDONALD [Parents] was born in 1883 in Gre Gre, Victoria, Australia. He died in 1972 in Perth, Western Australia. Andrew married Margaret Mary (Rita) CLARKE in 1929 in Perth, Western Australia.

Andrew, who had a twin brother, was one of 13 children. His father, Myles, was born in Isle of Skye, Scotland, while his mother, Mary Ann, was born in Australia to parents who had emigrated from Co. Clare, Ireland.

Margaret Mary (Rita) CLARKE [Parents] was born on 13 Jun 1897 in Castlemore, Co. Mayo. She was christened on 20 Jun 1897 in Ballaghaderreen, Co. Roscommon. She died in 1972 in Fremantle, Western Australia. Margaret married Andrew MCDONALD in 1929 in Perth, Western Australia.

Rita emigrated to Australia as a young woman. There she met her future husband, Andrew McDonald.

James (Jim) GLYNN [Parents] was born in Boyle, Co. Roscommon. He died. James married Evelyn Mary O'HARA on 1 Mar 1916 in Cootehall, Co. Roscommon.

Jim was from Oxhill, Knockvicar, Boyle, Co. Roscommon, where he and Evelyn lived after their marriage.

Note: There is a record of a marriage of a Thomas Glynn and Elizabeth Logan in Cootehall on 16 February 1880. Thomas's father's name was Patrick and Thomas's address was given as what looks like 'Cuidera'. Were Jim and Thomas related?

Evelyn Mary O'HARA [Parents] was born about 13 Jul 1889 in Clegna, Cootehall, Co. Roscommon. She was christened on 13 Jul 1889 in Cootehall, Co. Roscommon. She died in 1954. Evelyn married James (Jim) GLYNN on 1 Mar 1916 in Cootehall, Co. Roscommon.

Kathleen (Sr. Evelyn) GLYNN was born in 1929 in Knockvicar, Boyle, Co. Roscommon. She died on 7 Mar 2013 in Cork.

Kathleen was a sister in the Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance (OCSO), an enclosed order.  According to her obituary in the St. Mary's Abbey newsletter, she inherited musical talent from her mother, Evelyn, and studied in England, obtaining a Licentiate from the Guild Hall of Music, London, and a second Diploma from Trinity College of Music, London. She taught music in England for a time before returning to Ireland in 1957 when he entered the OCSO convent at St. Mary's Abbey, Glencairn, Lismore, Co. Waterford. She made First Profession on 27 December 1959 and Solemn Profession exactly three years later. Known as Sr. Evelyn she spent most of the rest of her life at St. Mary's.

Anne GLYNN [Parents] was born in Knockvicar, Boyle, Co. Roscommon. She died in Jan 2004. Anne married Gerald (Gareth) BROPHY about 1954 in probably Boyle, Co. Roscommon.
