William Charles Mark (Charles) KENT was born 1823 in Paramatta, NSW, Australia. He died 1902 in Campden Hill, Kensington, London. William married Anne YOUNG on 1853.

William, who was known as Charles, qualified as a barrister but went on to become a journalist, editor and poet, editing the Sun newspaper from 1845 to 1870. He was a good friend of Charles Dickens and a lock of Dickens's hair has been passed down through the family of Charles's son Harold.

Both Charles's father and his grandfather William Kent were naval officers. Apparently the Kent Group of islands in Bass Strait, Australia (between Tasmania and the mainland) is named after his grandfather.

Anne YOUNG [Parents] was born 1824 in London. She married William Charles Mark (Charles) KENT on 1853.

Anne was the eldest daughter of Sun newspaper proprietor Murdo Young. She was a novelist and short story and essay writer.

Mary PIERCE was born 1892. She died 1972 and was buried in Duagh Cemetery, Co. Kerry. Mary married James O'CONNOR.
