Richard and his family lived in Listowel, Co. Kerry. According to the 1901 census he worked as a "relieving officer" (who would have administered the provision of relief to the poor). His occupation in his 1911 census return is given as relieving officer and rate collector.

Mary 'UNKNOWN' died. Mary married Richard WALSH about 1907.

They had the following children.

  M i
James A. WALSH was born about 1907 in Listowel, Co. Kerry. He died.

John HAYES [Parents] was born in 1859 in Gortnaminch, Listowel, Co. Kerry. John married Honora HUDSON on 5 Sep 1901 in Listowel, Co. Kerry.

According to his mother's obituary (1898) John lived in Cape Town. However, I have been told he lived in Listowel as an adult.

Honora HUDSON [Parents] was born about 3 Dec 1875 in Listowel, Co. Kerry. She was christened on 5 Dec 1875 in Listowel, Co. Kerry. Honora married John HAYES on 5 Sep 1901 in Listowel, Co. Kerry.

Honora's baptismal sponsors were Edmund Carr and Johanna Nolan.

Despite the descrepancy in age it is possible that Honora was the 22-year-old publican named Nora Hudson of 33 Church St., Listowel who is listed in the 1901 census. It is believed our Honora grew up at 24 Church St., above her father's drapery business, but both her parents had died by the time of the 1901 census so it is conceivable she could have been running a neighboring public house by 1901. The pub was in the hands of a Michael Keane by the time of the 1911 census. However, I have come across no evidence to prove Honora and Nora were the same person.

Marriage Notes:

Witnesses to the marriage were Timothy Hayes and David Lawlor.

Mortimer HUDSON [Parents] was born about 4 Jan 1838 in Ballyeagh, Ballybunion, Co. Kerry. He was christened on 6 Jan 1838 in Ballybunion, Co. Kerry. He died on 28 Mar 1884 in Listowel registration district, Co. Kerry. Mortimer married Catherine (Kate) CARR on 9 Jan 1875 in Listowel, Co. Kerry.

Mortimer's baptismal sponsor was Margaret Dillane. Mortimer ran a drapery business located at 24 Church St., Listowel, Co. Kerry.

Catherine (Kate) CARR died on 8 Nov 1897 in Church St., Listowel, Co. Kerry. She was buried in Kilehenny Churchyard, Ballybunion, Co. Kerry. Catherine married Mortimer HUDSON on 9 Jan 1875 in Listowel, Co. Kerry.

The Kerry Sentinel published an obituary for Kate on 17 November 1897 which states she died on 8 November 1897 at her residence on Church St. The chief mourners were "Messrs P and J Sheehy, Ballyduff; J Sheehy, T Carr, P Long, T Nolan, R Mahony, P Sullivan (nephews of the deceased); J Carr, chemist, Tralee; N Hudson, M Hudson, J Horgan, P Wall, P D Griffin, J McKenna, T McAuliffe, the Misses Whelan, J Moloney, Michael Sweeney, J McMahon, J Cain, and - (sic) Farrell." It is possible the "N Hudson" is her daughter, Hanora/Nora, although it is surprising that she is not listed first.
