Margaret SULLIVAN was born in Caherciveen, Co. Kerry. She died.

Margaret's family were known as the 'Mar' Sullivans, to distinguish them from other Sullivan families in the area.

She had the following children.

  M i William MCKENNA died on 29 Oct 1979.

Denis MCENERY [Parents] was born about 21 Sep 1882 in Tubbertureen, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. He was christened on 23 Sep 1882 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. He died on 19 Jun 1938 in Tubbertureen, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. Denis married Mary (Ciss) EGAN on 11 Jun 1904 in St. Mary's Church, Tarbert, Co. Kerry.

Sponsors at Denis's baptism were Philip Bourke and Johanna McEnery.

I had been under the impression that Denis emigrated to the United States as he arrived in New York on 16 May 1903 (the contact name on the ship manifest being his sister Hannah) and on 9 May 1908 (the contact name this time being his brother John). However, it appears that Denis was just visting his family in New York in 1903 and 1908 - or else lived briefly in New York in 1903 before deciding to return home - as he married in Ireland in 1904. After his marriage he lived in Tarmon Hill, Tarbert, Co. Kerry before settling in Tubbertureen where he ran a farm.

We know that Denis's brother Edmund gave or sold his 76-acre farm in Tubbertureen to a Denis McEnery, presumably Denis above. The 1911 census of Ireland shows Denis living in Tubbertureen with his wife, Mary and three children, along with Mary's mother and a boarder named Edmund McEnery, surely his brother Edmund.

Denis died of tuberculosis aged 55.

Mary (Ciss) EGAN [Parents] was born about 20 Oct 1880 in Tarmon Hill, Tarbert, Co. Kerry. She was christened on 22 Oct 1880 in St. Mary's Church, Tarbert, Co. Kerry. Mary married Denis MCENERY on 11 Jun 1904 in St. Mary's Church, Tarbert, Co. Kerry.

The 1911 census tells us that Mary and her husband, Denis, had had seven children born alive by that time, only three of whom were still living, i.e., those listed on the census return: Margaret, Mary Bridget and Michael.

They had the following children.

  F i
Margaret (Queenie) MCENERY was born on 5 Apr 1905 in Tarmon Hill, Tarbert, Co. Kerry. She died on 19 Apr 1925 in Tubbertureen, Co. Kerry.

Queenie was only 20 years old when she died. I was told by a family source that she died of tuberculosis. According to her death certificate, however, Queenie died of "heart failure following pneumonia".

Mary died of tuberculosis at the age of 24.
  F vii
Michael MCENERY was born on 10 Jul 1910 in Tubbertureen, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. She was christened on 12 Jul 1910 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. She died on 6 Jul 1928 in Tubbertureen, Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

Michael's baptismal sponsors were Jeremiah McEnery and Bridget McEnery.

Michael died at the age of 18. I have been told by a family source that the cause of death was tuberculosis but, according to his death certificate, Michael died of "probably heart failure".
  F viii
Johanna MCENERY was born on 21 Mar 1912 in Tubbertureen, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. She died in 1986 or 1987 in Golders Green, London.

Johanna's baptismal sponsors were James O'Connor and Johanna O'Connor.

Johanna, who never married, lived in England where she worked as a children's nurse. The 1939 Register tells us she was living (and perhaps working) at the time at Merchiston, Hare Hatch, Wokingham, Berkshire. At the time of her death in the 1980s she was living in Golders Green in London. All of Johanna's siblings predeceased her.
F ix Hanora (Nora) MCENERY was born on 9 Jun 1913. She died before 1949.
F x Elizabeth (Lizzie) MCENERY was born on 26 May 1914. She died.

Thomas EGAN died before 2 Apr 1911. Thomas married Margaret MULVIHILL.

Margaret MULVIHILL was born about 1850 in Co. Kerry. She died after 2 Apr 1911. Margaret married Thomas EGAN.

They had the following children.

F i Mary (Ciss) EGAN was born about 20 Oct 1880.

BRODERICK, Mary (Minnie)

M i Denis MCENERY was born on 2 Sep 1905. He died.
M ii Patrick MCENERY was born in 1906. He died before 2000.
  M iii
Thomas MCENERY was born in 1908 in Tubbertureen, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. He died.

Thomas emigrated to the United States where he joined the army.
M iv Michael MCENERY was born on 22 Apr 1910. He died.
  F v Mary MCENERY died on 14 Feb 1994.

Francis (Frank) O'KEEFFE was born in probably Duagh, Co. Kerry. He died after 8 Feb 1912. Francis married Margaret MCENERY on 1 Mar 1862 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

Frank farmed in Meenscovane in Duagh. We have a little information on a Cornelius O'Keeffe of Meenscovane who is belived to have been a brother of Frank's but we have no proof of this. Cornelius's father was also called Cornelius and the descendants of the younger Cornelius were known as the "Young Cons". Young Con had a son named Francis who was born in Meenscovane in 1872 and who married and had a family.

If Frank's was indeed a beother of the younger Cornelius, i.e., his father was the older Cornelius, then it is surprising Frank did not name his eldest son Cornelius, following the tradition of the time to name one's first-born son after his paternal grandfather. Frank's eldest son appears to have been Luke so Frank's father may actually have been Luke.

Margaret MCENERY [Parents] was born on 22 Sep 1836 in Tubbertureen, Newtownsandes (Moyvane), Co. Kerry. Margaret married Francis (Frank) O'KEEFFE on 1 Mar 1862 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

Marriage Notes:

Witnesses to the marriage were William O'Keeffe of Moores Hotel, Cork City and Lizzie King of Ballyliddane, Sixmilebridge Co. Clare.

They had the following children.

  F i Mary O'KEEFFE was born on 26 Jan 1863.

Denis (Dinny) F. O'KEEFFE was born on 31 Oct 1880 in Meenscovane, Duagh, Co. Kerry. He died on 26 Oct 1913 in Meenscovane, Knocknagoshel, Co. Kerry.

Dinny emigrated to the United States. While working as a policeman in New York City he was shot and wounded. In poor health, he decided to return to Ireland not long afterwards. He died suddenly and unexpectedly of heart failure in 1913 aged 32. He was unmarried.

Michael O'SULLIVAN [Parents] was born about 1871 in probably Kilbaha, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. Michael married Bridget MCENERY on 11 Feb 1899 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

Bridget MCENERY [Parents] was born about 3 Mar 1874 in Tubbertureen, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. She was christened on 5 Mar 1874 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. Bridget married Michael O'SULLIVAN on 11 Feb 1899 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

It is possible that Bridget died in 1960 as an obituary for a "Mrs Michael O'Sullivan" of Kilbaha, who died in February 1960, was published in The Kerryman newspaper. The obituary tells us that Mrs O'Sullivan "was mother of Sr. Silvia, St. Mary's Infirmary, Galveston, Texas. She also had three sons and two daughters in Chicago." Perhaps Mrs. O'Sullivan was our Bridget above.

They had the following children.
