Mike and his wife and family lived at 10 Belgrave Place (near Wellington Road) in Cork.

Mary Ellen LEONARD [Parents] was born about 18 Jan 1863 in prob. Kilworth, Co. Cork and was christened 18 Jan 1863 in Kilworth, Co. Cork. She died after 1938 in prob Cork. Mary married Michael (Mike) DOODY in poss. Kilworth, Co. Cork.

We know the name of Mike's wife from correspondence (via ancestry.com) with Jan Fortado from Massachussets who is a descendant of one of Mary's granduncles. A cousin of Jan's was ordained in Rome in 1939 and he, along with his father who was accompanying him, stopped off in Ireland on their way back to the US. The priest's father kept a diary of the trip and it included the following:

"The next event on our program was a visit to our Cork cousins, the Doodys, who live at 10 Belgrade [this should read Belgrave] Terrace, Wellington Road. We got aboard the proper bus and in a few minutes we were at the door where we were greeted by Mrs. Doody and her daughter, "Girlie". Mrs. Doody has 3 sons: a dentist [actually a doctor], a doctor and a priest, but none were at home at the time".

Girlie never married. According to one source she lived on Belvedere Terrace in Cork, but it seems more likely she lived in the family home on Belgrave Terrace, off Wellington Road.

John DOODY was born in prob. Co. Cork. He died 30 Mar 1970 in Kilbrittain, Co. Cork and was buried in St Patrick's Church Grounds, Kilbrittain, Co. Cork.

John studied for the priesthood in Maynooth, Co. Kildare, and was ordained there in 1925. At the time of his ordination he was assigned to the church of Ss. Peter & Paul in Cork city. At the time of his father's death in 1929 John was in Torquay in England, and at some point after that he served as a curate in the parish of Dunmanway, Co. Cork. John was then appointed parish priest at Ss. Peter & Paul where he served from October 15, 1950 until April 12, 1961 when he became parish priest in Schull, Co. Cork. He served in Schull until 1967 when he was appointed parish priest in Kilbrittain, Co. Cork. John ministered in Kilbrittain until his death in 1970.
  M v James (Jim) DOODY died date unknown.

Mai ran St. Anthony's Nursing Home in Tralee.
