Patrick (Pats) KENNELLY [Parents] was born about 1845 in Gortdromagowna, Knockanure, Co. Kerry. He died 1912 in probably Gortdromagowna, Knockanure, Co. Kerry. Patrick married Ellen DORE about 1880.

Pats and Ellen, who lived in Knockanure, raised the orphaned children of Pats's brother Dan after Dan and his wife, Mary Stack, died of 'fever'.

Ellen DORE [Parents] was born about 1850 in Moyvane South (Shronagraga), Co. Kerry. She died possibly 28 Mar 1938. Ellen married Patrick (Pats) KENNELLY about 1880.

According to the 1911 census, Pats and Ellen had nine children born alive, only five of whom were still alive in 1911.

Pat and Mary lived in Gortdromagowna, Knockanure, Co. Kerry.

Kerry and was buried in probably Murhur Cemetery, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. Richard married Margaret THORNTON (caution: not verified) on 14 Feb 1874 in Newtownsandes (Moyvane), Co. Kerry.

Margaret THORNTON (caution: not verified) [Parents] was born in Kilbaha, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. She died after 2 Apr 1911 in Kilbaha, Moyvane, Co. Kerry and was buried in probably Murhur Cemetery, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. Margaret married Richard HUDSON on 14 Feb 1874 in Newtownsandes (Moyvane), Co. Kerry.

While we're sure Richard's wife's name was Margaret Thornton and that her father was a James Thornton from Kilbaha, we cannot say for certain - although it's very likely - that she was a daughter of Jim Thornton and Norrie Cunningham of Kilbaha, hence the caution.

According to the 1911 census, Richard and Margaret had been married for 36 years and had 17 children born alive, only six of whom were alive in 1911.

Edmond died of  'oppression' when he was only two months old. The duration of the illness was two days.

Kerry and was buried in probably Murhur Cemetery, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. William married Johanna HAYES on 7 Aug 1878 in St. Bartholomew's Church, Athea, Co. Limerick.

Sponsors at William's baptism were William Connor and John Connnor.

William was a striking-looking man with a long white beard.

Johanna HAYES [Parents] was born about 1855 in Dirreen, Athea, Co. Limerick. She died 14 Aug 1934 and was buried in probably Murhur Cemetery, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. Johanna married William HUDSON on 7 Aug 1878 in St. Bartholomew's Church, Athea, Co. Limerick.

William and Johanna remained on the farm in Kilbaha in Moyvane until 1923 when they moved to Kilmorna, Co. Kerry.

Note from Helen: I'm wondering if Johanna was related to the Hayes family of Templeathea (also in Athea, the parish in which Johanna's home townland of Dirreen is located) because at least two members of the Templeathea Hayes family married members of the family of Johanna's husband, William Hudson: Tom Hayes married William's sister Johanna Hudson in 1881, and about 1903 Tom's second cousin James Hayes married Bridget Hudson, daughter of  William Hudson and Johanna Hayes (and niece of Johanna Hudson). Edmond HUDSON [Parents] was born about 1850 in Kilbaha, Newtownsandes (Moyvane), Co. Kerry. He died 11 Jan 1878 in Australia. Edmond married Anne O'CONNOR.

Edmond emigrated to Australia around 1870 and settled in Melbourne.

According to a couple of sources, Edmond was murdered, but it's believed by most family members that this isn't true at all.

Anne O'CONNOR was born in Islandanny, Duagh, Co. Kerry. She died 4 Jul 1878 in Australia. Anne married Edmond HUDSON.

Michael HANRAHAN [Parents] was born in possibly Kilbaha, Newtownsandes (Moyvane), Co. Kerry. He died probably before 30 Mar 1901 in probably Kilbaha, Newtownsandes (Moyvane), Co. Kerry. Michael married Margaret (Peg) CUNNINGHAM on 15 Jan 1854 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

Much of the information below on the Hanrahan family comes from Pádraig Kenny, a great-great-grandson of 'unknown's son Michael. Pádraig, who has been very helpful to me in my research, has in his possession an old page of notes, found in a drawer, which seems to outline the family tree of the Hanrahan family in Kilbaha into which a number of my blood relatives married. The notes indicate that Michael's siblings were Denis, Jim, Paddy and Cornelius (Corney), and the information given on Paddy's descendants matches information I came across independently while researching my Cunningham ancestors (Margaret Cunningham, a great-grandaunt of mine, married Paddy's son John). The list of 'unknown's children below is based solely on this page of notes. It's possible 'unknown' also had a daughter named Ellen as a baptismal record has been located (on www.irishgenealogy.ie) for an Ellen Hanrahan of Kilbaha who married a John Shine in Moyvane on 11 February 1834 .

It's possible 'unknown's first name was John as at least three of his sons appear to have named their eldest sons John (it was traditional at the time to name first-born sons after the paternal grandfather). A John Hanrahan from Kilbaha who was married to a Mary Sullivan, had at least two children: Ellen (born 1813) and Patrick (born 1818, which ties in nicely with the approximate date of birth shown below for 'unknown's son Paddy, calculated from his age on the 1901 census). Another John Hanrahan and his wife, Bridget Wall, also lived in Kilbaha and had a daughter named Margaret (born 1813) and a son named Patrick (born 1816, again fitting in nicely with Paddy's calculated year of birth). And there was yet another John Hanrahan from Kilbaha; he was married to a Jane or Neasa Kennelly and appears to have had at least four sons: William (born 1826), Daniel (1828), Denis (1833) and Timothy (1835) with the mother's name on the baptismal records (on www.irishgenealogy.ie) of William and Daniel given as Jane and on those of Denis and Timothy given as Neasa.

There was also a Patrick Hanrahan who it's known was living in Kilbaha in the 1820s as baptismal records have been located (on www.irishgenealogy.ie) for two children of a Patrick Hanrahan and his wife, Margaret Mulvihill of Kilbaha: Patrick was baptised on 10 February 1823  and Michael on 24 August 1825.

He had the following children:

  M i Patrick (Paddy) HANRAHAN was born about 1816 and died between 1901 and 1911.
  M ii Michael HANRAHAN died probably before 30 Mar 1901.
  M iii Denis (Denny) HANRAHAN died before 30 Mar 1901.
