John BROSNAN was born about 1864 in Islandanny, Duagh, Co. Kerry. He died date unknown. John married Hanora (Nora) HUDSON about 1906.

John and Nora lived in Islandanny, Duagh, Co. Kerry. I have also seen their address given as Pilgrim Hill, Kilmorna, Co. Kerry, and the 1911 census shows the family living in Lacka East, Kilmeany, Co. Kerry.  

It's said the Brosnans of Islandanny are descended from two Brosnan men from Castleisland, Co. Kerry who settled in Islandanny and ended up owing most of the townland. As the years went by, the Brosnan families sub divided their land between them to such an extent that at one point there were 17 Brosnan families living in Islandanny.

Hanora (Nora) HUDSON [Parents] was born 1 Dec 1879 in Kilbaha, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. She died 21 Jun 1958 in Kilcara, Duagh, Co. Kerry and was buried in Murhur Cemetery, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. Hanora married John BROSNAN about 1906.

James HAYES [Parents] was born about 1875 in Fairy Street, Templeathea, Athea, Co. Limerick. He died 23 Apr 1956 in Fairy Street, Templeathea, Athea, Co. Limerick and was buried in Murhur Cemetery, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. James married Bridget HUDSON about 1909.

Bridget HUDSON [Parents] was born 21 Nov 1883 in Kilbaha, Moyvane, Co. Kerry and was christened 22 Nov 1883 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. She died 28 Apr 1928 in Athea, Co. Limerick. Bridget married James HAYES about 1909.

Sponsors at Bridget's baptism were Thomas Hayes and Honora Mulvihill.

Bridget was only 44 years of age when she died. James later remarried.

Note: Bridget's aunt Johanna Hudson was married to Tom Hayes, a second cousin of Bridget's husband, James Hayes.

Michael John HAYES was born 6 May 1910 in Fairy Street, Templeathea, Athea, Co. Limerick. He died 8 Jan 1927 in Fairy St., Athea, Co. Limerick.

Michael attended Mungret College, Co. Limerick between 1925 and 1926. Sadly, he contracted tuberculosis and died, at home, at the age of 18 in January 1927.

Thomas (Tom) HAYES was born about 1914 in Fairy Street, Templeathea, Athea, Co. Limerick. He died 30 Jan 1959 in Fairy St., Athea, Co. Limerick.

Tom, who never married, lived in Birmingham for a time before returning to Ireland.

Nora HAYES was born about 1926 in Fairy Street, Templeathea, Athea, Co. Limerick. She died 29 Mar 1927 in probably Fairy St., Athea, Co. Limerick.

Nora died as an infant.

Denis MCENERY was buried in Knockanure Cemetery, Co. Kerry. He married Margaret (Mag) HUDSON.

Denis farmed in Tubbertureen (also spelled Tubbertoureen), Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

There's a 1911 census entry for a Denis McEnery (written as McEniry on the census return), aged 34 and from Tubbertureen (spelled Toberatooreen on the census return). This entry may relate to our Denis above. He was single and living with his widowed mother Mary who was aged 71. Members of the household also included Denis's siblings Con (aged 32), Maggie (27) and Nora (25). We're also told Mary had been married 46 years and had four children born alive, all of whom were alive at the time of the census.

Margaret (Mag) HUDSON [Parents] was born 27 Nov 1884 in Kilbaha, Moyvane, Co. Kerry and was christened 29 Nov 1884 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. She died 7 Apr 1966 in Tubbertureen, Moyvane, Co. Kerry and was buried in Knockanure Cemetery, Co. Kerry. Margaret married Denis MCENERY.

Sponsors at Margaret's baptism were Maurice Cunningham and Honora Cunningham.

Ellen (Nell Broder) HUDSON [Parents] was born 29 May 1898 in Kilbaha, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. She died 15 Aug 1976 in Tralee, Co. Kerry and was buried in Ahavoher Cemetery, Gale Bridge, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. Ellen married Patrick (Paddy Broder) BRODERICK on 1923.

Henry (Harry) MCMAHON [Parents] was born about 1889 in Beale, Ballybunion, Co. Kerry. He died 16 Apr 1974 and was buried in Kilconly Cemetery, Ballybunion, Co. Kerry. Henry married Hanora (Nora) CUNNINGHAM on 1933.

Harry and Nora farmed at Beale Hill, Ballybunion. Harry's youngest brother, Fr. Michael (Monsr.) died at The Dalles, Oregon, USA, on 10 July 1973. His other brother, Ted, died in Beale on 23 October 1976, and his sister Kate died in Beale on 14 April 1967. Both Ted and Kate were unmarried and lived on the farm with Nora and Harry. Harry had four other siblings, all sisters: Mary, Lillian, Nora and Bridget.

Hanora (Nora) CUNNINGHAM [Parents] was born 6 Dec 1896 in Kilbaha, Moyvane, Co. Kerry and was christened 8 Dec 1896 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. She died 19 Feb 1988 in Beale, Ballybunion, Co. Kerry and was buried in Kilconly Cemetery, Ballybunion, Co. Kerry. Hanora married Henry (Harry) MCMAHON on 1933.

Nora's baptismal sponsors were Jeremiah Kennelly and Honora Kennelly.

'unknown' BROSNAHAN / BROSNAN [Parents] was born in probably Irremore, Listowel, Co. Kerry. He married Elizabeth THORNTON (caution: not verified) on 15 Feb 1870 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

'unknown's first name is very difficult to read in the Moyvane parish marriage register but it looks like (the Latin) "Domilius", or could possibly be Cornelius.

Elizabeth THORNTON (caution: not verified) [Parents] was born about 1846 in Kilbaha, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. She married 'unknown' BROSNAHAN / BROSNAN on 15 Feb 1870 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

From Elizabeth's marriage record we know her father was a James Thornton from Kilbaha but we cannot say for certain - although it's very likely - that Elizabeth was a daughter of Jim Thornton and Norrie Cunningham of Kilbaha, hence the caution.

James Thornton of Kilbaha witnessed the marriage.

There's a note in the parish register alongside the marriage record for Elizabeth and John that reads "cosanguinitas in (what looks like) 3º et 3º" which means they were related but I'm unsure as to the meaning of "3º et 3º". Perhaps it means they were third cousins?

Timothy RIORDAN was born about 1885 in probably Upper Dirreen, Athea, Co. Limerick. He died 3 Dec 1973 in Upper Dirreen, Athea, Co. Limerick and was buried in Ahavoher Cemetery, Gale Bridge, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. Timothy married Johanna (Hannie) HUDSON on 1918.

Hannie and Timothy lived in Upper Dirreen, Athea, Co. Limerick.

Johanna (Hannie) HUDSON [Parents] "Hannie" was born 31 Dec 1888 in Kilbaha, Moyvane, Co. Kerry and was christened 1 Jan 1889 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. She died 7 Jul 1961 in Limerick and was buried in probably Murhur Cemetery, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. Hannie married Timothy RIORDAN on 1918.

Sponsors at Hannie's baptism were Daniel Kennelly and Catherine Casey.
