Daniel CUNNINGHAM [Parents] was born abt 1780s in Kilbaha, or poss Abbeydorney area, Co. Kerry. He married Honora ENRIGHT.

It's not known if Daniel had more children than those listed below. We know of a Mary Cunningham who married a William Stack and who had a daughter named Margaret who was baptised in Moyvane on 22 April 1858 with sponsors Bernardus (equivalent of Bryan) Cunningham and Maria Enright. Could Mary have been a daughter of Daniel's? We know she was not a daughter of Daniel's brother Myles as Myles's daughter Mary married either a James Moore or a Pat O'Sullivan.

And there was a James Cunningham of Kilbaha, married to a Honora Thornton, who had at least two children: Elizabeth, baptised on 7 December 1841 (sponsors were Michael Thornton and Mary Thornton) and Daniel, baptised on 18 May 1844 (with sponsors Daniel Cunningham and Honora Cunningham). Could James have been a son of Daniel's?

Also, we know from a search of Newtownsandes baptismal records in the National Library in Dublin that a Cornelius Cunningham of Kilbaha, who was married to a Brigid Kennelly, had a daughter named Mary who was baptised on 20 September 1868 (with Honora Stack as a sponsor). Could Cornelius possibly have been a son of Daniel's, or a son of Daniel's brother Myles? We have since learned that Cornelius lived in Athea, Co. Limerick where Bridget, his wife, and all his children, except Mary, were born. Cornelius and Bridget had 12 children: Catherine (born in January 1864, probably died as a child), John (December 1864), Michael (1866), Mary (1868, probably died as a child), another Catherine (c.1870, probably died as a child), another Mary (c.1870),  Patrick (1872), Johanna (1873) who was known as Nonie, Bridget (1875), Cornelius (1877), Denis (1879) and another Catherine (1881) who was known as Kate. Michael, Mary, Nonie and Denis emigrated to the United States, settling in Kansas City, Missouri. Their mother too emigrated to Kansas City; she was about 60 years of age and left Cornelius back in Ireland. The 1911 census of Ireland tells us that Cornelius, aged 77, was living in Dirreen, Athea at that time. Bridge died in Kansas in 1922.   

Steve Cunningham in the U.S. tells me his great-great-grandparents were Cornelius Cunningham (born about 1836 in Co. Kerry) and Bridget Kennelly who lived with their family in the Athea area of Co. Limerick, not far from Kilbaha. It's possible Steve's great-great-grandparents were the same couple whose daughter Mary was baptised in Newtownsandes in September 1868. In case there is indeed a connection between Steve's Cunningham family and the Cunningham family which includes the aforementioned Mary, here's a little more detail on Steve's family: Bridget emigrated to the U.S. in 1906 with her son Denis, his wife Catherine (Katie) O'Sullivan and their two young children, Mary and Cornelius. They settled in Kansas City, Kansas where Bridget died in 1922. Denis and Katie later moved across the state line to Kansas City, Missouri. Bryan ("Little Bryan") CUNNINGHAM [Parents] "Little Bryan" was born about 25 May 1813 in possibly Kilbaha, Moyvane, Co. Kerry and was christened 27 May 1813 in Listowel, Co. Kerry. He married Catherine DANAHER (caution: not verified).

Catherine DANAHER (caution: not verified) married Bryan ("Little Bryan") CUNNINGHAM.

We're not completetely certain that Bryan's wife was Catherine Danaher but we are assuming it was because baptismal records were located for six children of a Bernardus (equivalent of Bryan) Cunningham and a Catherine Danaher of Kilbaha (including a Margaret whose name was included in a list of Little Bryan's children that I had already been provided with). As far as I can ascertain, there was only one other Bryan Cunningham living in Kilbaha in the 1850s and '60s when these children were born. He was Little Bryan's first cousin and was married to a Johanna Hudson. I am therefore making the assumption that Little Bryan was married to Catherine Danaher but because I have been unable to verify this I have added the caution.

John (John Denny) HANRAHAN [Parents] was born about 23 Jan 1868 in Moohane, Ballybunion, Co. Kerry and was christened 25 Jan 1868 in Ballybunion, Co. Kerry. He died 2 Mar 1946 and was buried in Killehenny Cemetery, Ballybunion, Co. Kerry. John married Mary 'UNKNOWN' about 1909.

John Denny farmed in Moohane.

Mary 'UNKNOWN' was born about 1872. She married John (John Denny) HANRAHAN about 1909.

Denis MCELLIGOTT [Parents] was born in probably Irremore, Listowel, Co. Kerry. He married Honora (Norrie) CUNNINGHAM on 28 Jan 1893 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

Honora (Norrie) CUNNINGHAM [Parents] was born about 1 Sep 1858 in Kilbaha, Moyvane, Co. Kerry and was christened 3 Sep 1858 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. She married Denis MCELLIGOTT on 28 Jan 1893 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

Sponsors at Norrie's baptism were Maurice Hartnett and Mary Danaher.

James (Jim) CUNNINGHAM [Parents] was born about 1863 in Kilbaha, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. He married Johanna (Hannie) STACK about 1897.

Most of the information below on James's wife and family comes from the 1901 census return for the household of a James Cunningham of Kilbaha North who I'm fairly sure is our James above. For one thing, the census indicates that James was born about 1862, around the time that our James would have been born. Secondly, it shows that James' eldest son's name is Bryan, probably following the practice at the time of naming the first-born son after his paternal grandfather.

Johanna (Hannie) STACK [Parents] was born about 1872. She married James (Jim) CUNNINGHAM about 1897.

We know Hannie's maiden name from the 1901 census which includes Hannie's 14-year-old sister, Eliza Stack, in the listing for James Cunningham's household.

According to the 1911 census, James and Hannie had been married for 13 years; they had had five children born alive, all five of whom were still living by 1911.

John (Jack) Patrick CUNNINGHAM [Parents] was born 17 Mar 1909 in Kilbaha, Moyvane, Co. Kerry and was christened 20 Mar 1909 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. He died 19 Nov 1990 in Kilbaha, Moyvane, Co. Kerry and was buried in Ahavoher Cemetery, Gale Bridge, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. John married Catherine (Kitty) MCCOY.

Jack's baptismal sponsors were James Kennelly and Mary Kennelly.

Jack was known as 'Jackie Jim Bryan' (the local naming pattern was first name followed by father's first name followed by grandfather's first name to distinguish between people of similar names in the locality). He and his wife, Kitty McCoy, lived in Kilbaha.

Catherine (Kitty) MCCOY was born about 1908 in Athea, Co. Limerick. She died 6 Jun 1977 and was buried in Ahavoher Cemetery, Gale Bridge, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. Catherine married John (Jack) Patrick CUNNINGHAM.
