Daniel (Dan) KEARNEY was born in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. He married Ellen CUNNINGHAM about 1850.

It's possible Dan's parents were Daniel Kearney and Mary Enright as a baptismal record has been found on www.irishgenealogy.ie for a Daniel Cearney (sic) of Kilbeaha (sic) who was baptised on 1 March 1812. It's also possible Dan was the Daniel Kearney of Kilbaha North as listed in Griffiths Valuation, carried out for the Kilbaha area in 1853. Daniel is the only Kearney listed for the whole of Kilbaha (North, South, West and Middle).

I have located a marriage record on www.irishgenealogy.ie for a Daniel Kearney and a Honora Cunningham who was from Kilbaha. The marriage took place on 8 February 1842. It probably doesn't relate to our Daniel and Ellen but it's woth noting in case there was a transcription error. Witnesses to this marriage were Miles Cunningham and Thomas Mulvihill.

Ellen CUNNINGHAM [Parents] was born about 26 Apr 1825 in Kilbaha, Newtownsandes (Moyvane), Co. Kerry and was christened 28 Apr 1825 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. She married Daniel (Dan) KEARNEY about 1850.

Ellen 'UNKNOWN' was born about 1865. She married Daniel KEARNEY.

It's possible Ellen's surname may have been Slattery because a Daniel Kearney of Newtownsandes, Co. Kerry married an Ellen Slattery of Listowel, Co. Kerry on 23 February 1895 in Listowel.

John (Johnny) HOLLY [Parents] was born about 1912 in Tarmons Hill, Tarbert, Co. Kerry. He died 4 Mar 1991 and was buried in Ahavoher Cemetery, Gale Bridge, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. John married Bridget (Pidge) KEARNEY.

Johnny and Pidge ran a grocery shop and hackney business in Moyvane village.

Bridget (Pidge) KEARNEY [Parents] "Pidge" was born 8 Mar 1905 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry and was christened 9 Mar 1905 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. She died 5 Jan 1995 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry and was buried in Ahavoher Cemetery, Gale Bridge, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. Pidge married John (Johnny) HOLLY.

Baptismal sponsors were Thomas Culhane and Mary Culhane.

Denis HOLLY was born about 1882 in Tarmons East, Tarbert, Co. Kerry. He married Ellen (Ellie) FLAHERTY after 2 Apr 1911.

Ellen (Ellie) FLAHERTY [Parents] was born 1884 in Glenalappa, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. She married Denis HOLLY after 2 Apr 1911.

Patrick (Pat) O'CONNOR [Parents] was born about 1833 in Shronebeirne, Duagh, Co. Kerry. He died after 2 Apr 1911. Patrick married Anne (Nance) CUNNINGHAM on 19 Dec 1866 in Newtownsandes (Moyvane), Co. Kerry.

After their marriage, Pat and Nance lived in Kilbaha - they were immediate neighbours of Nance's brother, Bryan.

There are 1901 and 1911 census returns from Kilbaha North for Pat's household. The 1901 returns give the following information:

In 1911, Pat is listed along with his son Thomas and daughter, Mary. It's possible Thomas and Mary never married.

Kevin O'Connor from Kent has provided information on Pat's family: Pat's father's name was Thomas O'Connor and his mother's last name was Brosnan. Besides Pat, Thomas had five other children that we know of: Mary, born in 1827; James (Kevin's great-grandfather), born in 1828 who went to farm in Meenahorna, Duagh; Thomas who farmed at Shronebeirne; John T. who moved to Farranpierce in the parish of Killehenny; and Denis who emigrated to the United States. Kevin has put his family history together in a book 'The Descendants of the O'Connors of Carrigafoyle Stemming from the Datheenachs Line' (2006). Besides  the O'Connors, other families covered in Kevin's work include the Brosnans of Shronebeirne, the Byrnes of Coolanelig in Duagh, the Keanes of Ballygrennan in Finuge, and many more. Anne (Nance) CUNNINGHAM [Parents] "Nance" was born in Kilbaha, Newtownsandes (Moyvane), Co. Kerry. She died before 31 Mar 1901. Nance married Patrick (Pat) O'CONNOR on 19 Dec 1866 in Newtownsandes (Moyvane), Co. Kerry.

Myles emigrated to the United States in 1899. It's thought he lived initially in Poughkeepsie where he had a cousin (on the ship manifest, the cousin's name looks like Mary Lally of St. Mary's Church, Church St. Poughkeepsie) and later moved to New Jersey. It seems he subsequently lost contact with his family.

James's baptismal sponsors were John Connor and Margaret Thornton.

Unfortunately we have no further information on James.

John O'CONNOR was born 13 Aug 1881 in Kilbaha, Newtownsandes (Moyvane), Co. Kerry and was christened 13 Aug 1881 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. He died in possibly U.S..

John's baptismal sponsors were Daniel Kearney and Mary Cunningham.

According to Ellis Island records, John emigrated to the United States in September 1906. He was headed for San Francisco to join his sister Josie. Unfortunately nothing more is known of him.

'unknown' MOORE (caution: not verified) was born in Aughrim, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. He died possibly before 2 Apr 1911. 'unknown' married Mary CUNNINGHAM.

It's thought by one family source that Myles's daughter Mary married a Pat O'Sullivan from Knockbawn (in Co. Kerry?) and that they emigrated to the United States where Pat was killed in a railway accident while working. However it's felt that it's much more likely that Mary married a Mr. Moore (possibly named James) from Aughrim. There's a record (on www.irishgenealogy.ie) of the marriage of a Mary Cunningham from Newtownsandes to a James Moore from Listowel on 28 May 1874, but the name of Mary's father on the register is John, not Myles. Furthermore Mary would have been 42 years of age in May 1974 so it's unlikely this record relates to the marriage of our Mary.

If our Mary did indeed marry a Mr. Moore from Aughrim, then it's likely she lived with her niece Margaret Moore (née Mulvihill) in Aughrim towards the end of her life as there's a Mary Moore, aged 81 and widowed, listed in the 1911 census return of Margaret and her husband, Patrick Moore.

Mary CUNNINGHAM [Parents] was born about 4 Oct 1832 in Kilbaha, Newtownsandes (Moyvane), Co. Kerry and was christened 6 Oct 1832 in Newtownsandes, Co. Kerry. She died possibly after 2 Apr 1911 in possibly Aughrim, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. Mary married 'unknown' MOORE (caution: not verified).
