Patrick Robert HUDSON [Parents] was born 13 May 1838 in possibly Tralee, Co. Kerry. He died 15 Dec 1914 in Philadelphia and was buried in Holy Cross Cemetery, Philadelphia. Patrick married Anne Agnes CARROLL on Sep 1885 in Philadelphia.

On the Irish Genealogy website, www.irishgenealogy.ie, a baptismal record was located for a Patrick Hutson (sic) of Drowmcunig, Abbeydorney, son of Edmund (sic) Hutson and Margaret Finucane (sponsors were John Murnane and Ellen Carney). It's a possibility this may relate to our Patrick.

Patrick emigrated to the United States with his brother Francis in 1853, aged only 15. He saw action on the Roanoke during the Civil War. He became a US citizen in 1868 and joined the U.S. Marine Corps where he spent the rest of his career.

Anne Agnes CARROLL [Parents] was born 13 Nov 1848 in Liverpool. She died Dec 1940 in West Philadelphia. Anne married Patrick Robert HUDSON on Sep 1885 in Philadelphia.

Anne's parents were from Ballycanew, Co. Wexford. Anne and her family emigrated to the United States from Liverpool when she was about four years of age.

Margaret Elizabeth HUDSON was born 26 Sep 1887 in Philadelphia. She died Feb 1941 in West Philadelphia.

Margaret graduated in 1909 from Bryn Mawr. She was a brilliant linguist and at the time of her death in 1941 she had a PhD and was head of the department of modern languages at Frankford High School in Philadelphia. Her specialty was French. Margaret's nephew Bill Hudson credits her with giving him a love of languages. She never married and died from a goitre-related illness.

William HUDSON [Parents] was born about 1819 in probably Trieneragh, Duagh, Co. Kerry. He died 2 Jul 1893 in Philadelphia and was buried in Cathedral Cemetery, Philadelphia. William married Ellen WALSH about 1851.

William worked as a labourer in Philadelphia and helped his brother Frank in his plastering business. According to his death certificate, William died at his home in Suffolk St., Philadelphia of "phthisis" (a form of tuberculosis). William had a white beard and smoked a pipe.

Ellen WALSH was born about 1821 in Ireland. She died 22 May 1903 in Philadelphia. Ellen married William HUDSON about 1851.

Edmund / Edward HUDSON was born 1854 in Philadelphia. He died 7 Jul 1908 in Philadelphia and was buried in Old Cathedral Cemetery, Philadelphia.

According to the 1870 census, Edmond was a clerk in a store. He eventually became a house painter and died as a reult of injuries sustained in a fall from a balcony he was painting. He was unmarried.

Richard HUDSON [Parents] was born 15 Aug 1827 in probably Duagh, Co. Kerry. He died 14 Sep 1902 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin and was buried in Riverside Cemetery, Oshkosh. Richard married Johanna O'CONNOR on 19 Feb 1854 in St. Paul's Church, Philadelphia.

Richard emigrated to the United States in 1849. He was a Civil War veteran, having served with the 3rd Regiment of the Wisconsin Cavalry between December 1861 and June 1862. He returned to civilian life before the end of the war as a result of an accident (details unknown) and worked as a stone mason.

Johanna O'CONNOR was born Jan 1833 in Ireland. She died after 1 Nov 1902 in probably Oshkosh, Wisconsin and was buried in Riverside Cemetery, Oshkosh. Johanna married Richard HUDSON on 19 Feb 1854 in St. Paul's Church, Philadelphia.

William HUDSON was born about 1859 in Wisconsin. He died probably before 1900.

It's being presumed that William died before the 1900 census because the return for his parents' household shows that his mother, Johanna, was the "mother of 5 children, 1 child living", the living child presumably being William's sister, Mary Anne, who we know didn't die until 1920. William's other sister, Johanna, died in 1898.
