Roger O'HARA [Parents] was born about 12 Jan 1846 in probably Clegna, Cootehall, Co. Roscommon and was christened 12 Jan 1846. He married Winifred? HUNT.

Sponsors at Roger's baptism were Roger O'Hara and Catherine O'Hara.

At the time of the death of his mother, in 1896, Roger was living in Corrageen, Cootehall, which probably means he's not the Roger O'Hara listed in the 1901 census for Clegna, Cootehall. In case he is, the Roger O'Hara in the census return was aged 50 and married to Winifred aged 45. There are no children listed. Another possibility is that the Roger from the census is Roger, son of Patrick O'Hara and Margaret Meehan of Clegna, who was born in 1854.

Winifred? HUNT married Roger O'HARA.

It's likely Roger's wife's first name was Winifred as a 1911 census record was located for 65-year-old Roger O'Hara who was living in Clegna with his wife, Winifred, who was 58 years of age. According to the census return, Winifred and Roger had been married for 30 years and had no children.

John William BUCKLEY [Parents] was born about 1823 in Soho, London. He died after 24 Oct 1864 and possibly before 1872. John married Elizabeth (Eliza) Mary BUTLER on 27 Feb 1848 in Sutton St. Chapel, Soho, London.

According to his marriage certificate, John was an engineer, but the birth certificate of his daughter Agnes gives his occupation as a musical instrument maker, and according to the 1861 census he was a 'musical instrument maker and news agent', and the death certificate of his wife, Eliza, gives his occupation as "musical instrument maker (master)". Did he therefore work for his father-in-law who ran a musical instrument making business? The marriage certificate of his son George (who married in 1898) tells us John had been a banker's clerk whereas George's death certificate (1932) states that John had been a general merchant. It's quite possible George was never sure what his father had worked at given that he (George) was adopted and brought to Scotland as a child, following the death of his mother (or more likely the deaths of both his parents).

At the time of the 1861 census and at the time of the death of Eliza, John and his family were living at 17 Brydges St. in Covent Garden which until 1859 or 1860 was the location of the Butler musical instrument shop. Prior to 1861, known addresses for John were 4 Sutton St., Soho (at the time of his marriage in 1848), and 28 Maiden Lane, Covent Garden (at the time of the birth of his daughter Agnes in 1854).

Because Eliza died in 1864 and because their youngest child, George (born in 1861), was adopted and because by the time of the 1871 census other children of theirs appear to be living with relatives, it seems that John may have died shortly after his wife, probably before the 1871 census as there seems to be no trace of him in that or subsequent censuses.

Elizabeth (Eliza) Mary BUTLER [Parents] was born about 1826 in Dublin. She died 24 Oct 1864 in 17 Brydges St., Covent Garden, London. Elizabeth married John William BUCKLEY on 27 Feb 1848 in Sutton St. Chapel, Soho, London.

It's possible Eliza's middle name was Agnes rather than Mary - it was given as Agnes on her marriage certificate and Mary on the birth certificate of her daughter Agnes and on her (Eliza's) death certificate.

Eliza died of "arthritis, 3 weeks; enteritis, 2 days". She was only in her late thirties.

Marriage Notes:

Witnesses to the marriage of Elizabeth and John were Edward J. [illegible surname] and Lucy Moriarty.

They had the following children:

  M i
John L. BUCKLEY was born about 1850 in Soho, London.
  F ii
Lucy Catherine BUCKLEY was born 1852 in Covent Garden, London.

Lucy is listed in the 1871 census return for the household of her uncle, George Butler, as an "apprentice to millinery".
  F iii
Agnes Mary BUCKLEY was born 17 Apr 1854 in 28 Maiden Lane, St. Paul, Covent Garden, London.

Agnes is listed in the 1871 census return for the household of her uncle, George Butler, as an "apprentice to dressmaking". Her name appears again in the 1881 census return for her uncle's household. Her occupation is now dressmaker. It appears that she and perhaps her sisters, Lucy and Mary Ann (who are also listed with the Butlers in the 1871 census), may have lived with their uncle and his family. It seems likely their parents died young, especially in light of the fact that their younger brother George was adopted.
  F iv
Mary Ann BUCKLEY was born 1856 in Covent Garden, London.

Mary Ann is listed in the 1871 census return for the household of her uncle, George Butler, as an "apprentice to dressmaking".
  M v
Theresa/Teresa Mary BUCKLEY was born 1858 in Covent Garden, London.

The 1871 census of England has a Theresa Butler, aged 12 and born in Haymarket (near Covent Garden) listed as a visitor in the home of a Mrs. Emma Bean of 7 Tavistock Crescent in Paddington. Could this be our Teresa? And if so, given that her three older sisters seem to have been living at the time of the 1871 census with their uncle George Butler, was she being raised by the widowed Mrs. Bean and her extended family (which included six nieces and nephews)?
M vi George Charles BUCKLEY was born 4 Jul 1861 and died 17 Aug 1932.

Thomas LOGAN married Winifred MEEHAN (caution: exact realtionship to Ellen not verified).

It's thought Thomas may have farmed in the townland of Derrygirraun in Cootehall (Ardcarne). There's an entry in Griffiths Valuation for a Thomas Logan in Derrygirraun, and neighbours of his included Meehans who were probably related to Thomas's wife, Winifred Meehan. Another neighbour was Laurence O'Hara who would marry Ellen Meehan who it's thought might have been a close relative of Winifred.

Based on the list of sponsors at the baptisms of his children, Thomas possibly had brothers named Michael and Joseph.

According to the marriage record of his son, John, Thomas was a "surveyor" rather than a farmer.

Winifred MEEHAN (caution: exact realtionship to Ellen not verified) [Parents] was born in probably Cootehall, Co. Roscommon. She married Thomas LOGAN.

It's fairly certain that Winifred and Ellen were related. They may have have been sisters but we're by no means sure. Based on the list of sponsors at the baptisms of Winifred's children, she (and Ellen?) possibly had other siblings named Eleanor, Lucy, Charles, Margaret, Bernard and Bridget.

They had the following children:

M i Joseph LOGAN was born Oct 1844.
  M ii
James LOGAN was born Sep 1846 in probably Cootehall, Co. Roscommon and was christened 21 Sep 1846 in Cootehall, Co. Roscommon.

Sponsors at James's baptism were Charles Meehan and Winifred McDermott.
M iii John Joseph LOGAN was born Jan 1849 and died 1906.
  M iv
Thomas LOGAN was born Oct 1851 in probably Cootehall, Co. Roscommon and was christened 12 Oct 1851 in Cootehall, Co. Roscommon.

Sponsors at Thomas's baptism were Bernard Meehan and Bridget Meehan.
M v Peter LOGAN was born Aug 1854.
  M vi
John LOGAN was born May 1857 in probably Cootehall, Co. Roscommon and was christened 6 May 1857 in Cootehall, Co. Roscommon.

There's a baptismal record for a John Logan, born 1857 to Thomas Logan and Winifred Meehan (sponsors were Joseph Logan and Margaret Dolan). However Thomas and Winifred already had a son named John (born 1849) who married Anne McPartland in 1877. One could suggest that perhaps the John born in 1849 died as a child and it was the other John who married Anne. However according to the marriage certificate of John and Anne, John was aged 27 which ties in with being born in 1849. If it had been the younger John who married Anne, he would have been only 19 at the time which would have been very unusual. Perhaps both Johns went by both their first and middle names. It's not known what the middle name of the younger John was.
F vii Elizabeth LOGAN was born about 1859.
  M viii
Charles LOGAN was born Jul 1860 in probably Cootehall, Co. Roscommon and was christened 15 Jul 1860 in Cootehall, Co. Roscommon.

Sponsors at Charles's baptism were Timothy Regan and Bridget Meehan.
  F ix
Anne LOGAN was born Apr 1863 in probably Cootehall, Co. Roscommon and was christened 23 Apr 1863 in Cootehall, Co. Roscommon.

Sponsors at Anne's baptism were James Connel and Mary Hayden.

Myles MCPARTLAND.

According to the marriage record of his daughter, Anne, Myles was a coachman.

He had the following children:

F i Anne (Annie) Josephine MCPARTLAND was born 1853 and died after 2 Apr 1911.
F ii Catherine (Kate) Agnes MCPARTLAND.
  M iii Thomas MCPARTLAND

Peter John LOGAN [Parents] was born 12 Apr 1886 in Dublin; or Greatmeadow, Boyle, Co. Roscommon and was christened 18 Apr 1886 in Boyle, Co. Roscommon. He died 3 Aug 1968 in Hill of Down, Co. Meath and was buried in St. Finian's Cemetery, Clonard, Co. Westmeath. Peter married Anna Maria HEVEY on 20 Oct 1937 in St. Mary's Church, Kinnegad, Co. Westmeath.

Sponsors at Peter's baptism were Myles McPartland and Honora Hargaden. According to the 1911 census, Peter was born in the Dublin city which doesn't tie in with the information I received from family sources.

Peter was a station master and worked in Moycullen, Co. Galway and Hill of Down, Co. Meath. He was the last station master at Hill of Down.

Anna Maria HEVEY was born 1901. She died 1 Feb 1984 in Hill of Down, Co. Meath and was buried in St. Finian's Cemetery, Clonard, Co. Westmeath. Anna married Peter John LOGAN on 20 Oct 1937 in St. Mary's Church, Kinnegad, Co. Westmeath.
