(Continued)

71. Patrick MULVIHILL (Brigid (Biddy) CUNNINGHAM , Myles , 'unknown' ) was born about 10 Feb 1865 in Aughrim, Moyvane, Co. Kerry and was christened 12 Feb 1865 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

  296 F iv
Catherine MULVIHILL was born 14 Jan 1907 in Aughrim, Moyvane, Co. Kerry and was christened 14 Jan 1907 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. She died before 2 Apr 1911 in probably Aughrim, Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

76. Margaret MULVIHILL (Brigid (Biddy) CUNNINGHAM , Myles , 'unknown' ) was born 8 May 1873 in Aughrim, Moyvane, Co. Kerry and was christened 8 May 1873 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. She died possibly 25 Jan 1963.

Baptismal sponsors were Cornelius Hanrahan and Catherine Hanrahan.

it's possible Margaret's aunt Mary Cunningham who, it's believed, was married to a Mr. Moore from Aughrim, may have been the wife of an uncle of Margaret's husband, Paddy Moore. Living with Margaret and Paddy in Aughrim at the time of the 1911 census was Mary Moore, an 81-year-old widow who is listed as Paddy's aunt. It's possible she may have been both Margaret's aunt (who would have been a similar age in 1911) and the wife of one of Paddy's uncles.

Margaret married Patrick (Paddy) MOORE, son of John MOORE and Honora 'UNKNOWN', on 20 Jul 1901 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. Patrick was born about 1879 in probably Aughrim, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. He died possibly 31 Jan 1961.

Sponsors at Nora's baptism were John Cunningham and Margaret Cunningham.

Nora emigrated to the United States in 1902, settling in San Francisco where her older sister Josie was already living.

Honora married George MANLEY, son of David MANLEY and Honora LEAHY, on 11 Feb 1917 in San Francisco. George was born 15 Jun 1885 in Brosna, Co. Kerry. He died 25 Mar 1974 in San Francisco and was buried in Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma, California.

Sponsors at Norrie's baptism were Maurice Hartnett and Mary Danaher.

Honora married Denis MCELLIGOTT, son of Richard MCELLIGOTT and Catherine 'UNKNOWN', on 28 Jan 1893 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. Denis was born in probably Irremore, Listowel, Co. Kerry.

  317 M v
Denis MCELLIGOTT (caution: not verified) was born about 1889 in Kilfeighney, Co. Kerry.
  318 M vi
Michael MCELLIGOTT (caution: not verified) was born about 1892 in Kilfeighney, Co. Kerry.
  319 M vii
Richard MCELLIGOTT (caution: not verified) was born about 1897 in Kilfeighney, Co. Kerry.

92. Maurice CUNNINGHAM (caution: not verified) (Bryan ("Little Bryan") , Daniel , 'unknown' ) was born about 20 May 1862 in Kilbaha, Moyvane, Co. Kerry and was christened 22 May 1862 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. He was buried in Murhur Cemetery, Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

There's absolutely no proof available to indicate that Maurice was a son of the Bryan Cunningham who was known as "Little Bryan", but for the following reasons it's being assumed they were father and son:

1. It's known that Maurice's father was named Bryan.

2. Maurice's son, Billy, married a Jo O'Connor who was related to him. It's thought by the family that they were third cousins, and this would make sense if Maurice were Little Bryan's son as it would make Billy and Jo third cousins once removed. It could be argued that Maurice could have been a son of the Bryan Cunningham who married Johanna Hudson, but if this were the case, then Billy and Jo would be first cousins once removed.

3. It could also be argued that Maurice's father, Bryan, was neither Little Bryan, nor Bryan who married Johanna Hudson. This is unlikely because within our original Kilbaha Cunningham family, there were only three brothers, Myles, Daniel and Timothy. Myles had a son called Bryan (who married Johanna Hudson); Daniel had a son, Bryan (Little Bryan); and Timothy never married. And given that the only Cunninghams listed in Griffiths Valuation (1850s) for Kilbaha are Myles, Daniel and Timothy, it's most likely that Maurice's father had to have been either Myles's or Daniel's son.

In the 1901 census return for the household of James Cunningham in Kilbaha North, there's a Maurice Cunningham listed as a brother of James. Maurice's occupation is given as shopkeeper. If, as we think, Maurice's mother was Catherine Danaher, then his age (34) at the time of the 1901 census doesn't tie in with his baptismal date which would have made him 39 at the time of the census. Sponsors at the baptism of Maurice, son of Bryan Cunningham and Catherine Danaher, were Edmond Stack and Hanora Stack.

It's known that Maurice moved to Moyvane village (from Kilbaha?) "around 1900".

Maurice married Mary FORAN, daughter of William FORAN and Catherine SHINE, on 25 Aug 1901 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. Mary was born about 1873 in Moyvane village, Co. Kerry. She was buried in Murhur Cemetery, Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

Mary and Maurice lived in the village of Newtownsandes (now known as Moyvane).

James (Jimmy) Francis CUNNINGHAM was born 1913 in Newtownsandes (Moyvane) village, Co. Kerry. He died 17 Jan 1966 in U.S..

James was ordained a priest in 1939 and served in New Orleans.
+ 329 F x Maud CUNNINGHAM was born 2 Apr 1918 and died 27 Feb 1974.

93. James (Jim) CUNNINGHAM (Bryan ("Little Bryan") , Daniel , 'unknown' ) was born about 1863 in Kilbaha, Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

Most of the information below on James's wife and family comes from the 1901 census return for the household of a James Cunningham of Kilbaha North who I'm fairly sure is our James above. For one thing, the census indicates that James was born about 1862, around the time that our James would have been born. Secondly, it shows that James' eldest son's name is Bryan, probably following the practice at the time of naming the first-born son after his paternal grandfather.

James married Johanna (Hannie) STACK, daughter of 'unknown' STACK, about 1897. Johanna was born about 1872.

We know Hannie's maiden name from the 1901 census which includes Hannie's 14-year-old sister, Eliza Stack, in the listing for James Cunningham's household.

According to the 1911 census, James and Hannie had been married for 13 years; they had had five children born alive, all five of whom were still living by 1911.

They had the following children:

  330 M i
Bryan CUNNINGHAM was born 7 Oct 1898 in Kilbaha, Moyvane, Co. Kerry and was christened 9 Oct 1898 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

Bryan's baptismal sponsors were John Keily and Mary Keily.

He is listed as Bernard in the 1911 census (the names are synonymous).
  331 M ii
Edward/Edmund CUNNINGHAM was born 1 Mar 1900 in Kilbaha, Moyvane, Co. Kerry and was christened 3 Mar 1900 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

Edward's baptismal sponsors were Maurice Cunningham and Mary Stack.
  332 F iii Catherine CUNNINGHAM
  333 F iv Mary CUNNINGHAM
+ 334 M v John (Jack) Patrick CUNNINGHAM was born 17 Mar 1909 and died 19 Nov 1990.

99. Bridget HARRINGTON (Johanna CUNNINGHAM , Daniel , 'unknown' ) was born about 8 Jan 1853 in Kilbaha, Moyvane, Co. Kerry and was christened 10 Jan 1853 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

The sponsor at Bridget's baptism was Denis Harrington.

Bridget married John O'CONNELL, son of 'unknown' O'CONNELL, on 25 Feb 1872 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. John was born 1847 in Lahardane, Ballybunion, Co. Kerry. He died Jun 1930 in Melbourne.

John emigrated to Australia about 1875, settling in Melbourne. It's believed his wife, Bridget, did not accompany him.

Marriage Notes:

Witnesses were James Morgan and Michael Hanrahan.

John and Bridget had the following children:

  335 M i John O'CONNELL
  336 M ii
James O'CONNELL was born 30 Jul 1874 in Lahardane, Ballybunion, Co. Kerry and was christened 3 Aug 1874 in Ballybunion, Co. Kerry. He died before Jun 1930.
  337 M iii
Michael O'CONNELL (caution: not verified) was born 5 Jul 1875 in Lahardane, Ballybunion, Co. Kerry and was christened 12 Jul 1875 in Ballybunion, Co. Kerry.

Michael's mother's name appears as Mina Harrington on his baptismal record on www.irishgenealogy.ie, hence the caution.

It's possible Michael died as a child as his father had another son in 1890 whom he named Michael.

101. Honora (Nora) HARRINGTON (Johanna CUNNINGHAM , Daniel , 'unknown' ) was born about 13 Nov 1856 in Kilbaha, Newtownsandes (Moyvane), Co. Kerry and was christened 15 Nov 1856 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

Sponsors at Hanora's baptism were William Harrington and Ellen Cunningham.

Honora married Michael J. O'CONNOR, son of Michael O'CONNOR, on 25 Sep 1887 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. Michael was born about 1845 in Listowel, Co. Kerry.

Michael may have lived in the United States for a time because in the 1911 census, under 'County of Birth', Michael wrote "Born in Ireland, 4 in America". According to the 1901 census Michael was running a public house and was living with his family in Church St., Listowel. By 1911, however, Michael was a shoemaker and the family was living in the Square, Listowel.

Marriage Notes:

Witnesses were Martin Sheehy and Mary Harrington.

Michael and Honora had the following children:

  338 F i
Catherine Mary O'CONNOR was born about 1883 in Listowel, Co. Kerry.

  342 M v
James Albert O'CONNOR was born about 3 Feb 1893 in Listowel, Co. Kerry and was christened 5 Feb 1893 in Listowel, Co. Kerry.
  343 F vi
Margaret Mary O'CONNOR was born about 18 Jan 1895 in Listowel, Co. Kerry and was christened 20 Jan 1895 in Listowel, Co. Kerry.
  344 F vii
Gertrude O'CONNOR was born about 1898 in Listowel, Co. Kerry.

104. James HARRINGTON (Johanna CUNNINGHAM , Daniel , 'unknown' ) was born about 20 Feb 1861 in Kilbaha, Moyvane, Co. Kerry and was christened 22 Feb 1861 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

James's baptismal sponsors were Timothy Cronin and Johanna Cunningham.

James married Mary KENNELLY, daughter of Patrick KENNELLY and Catherine GALVIN, on 18 Feb 1896 in Duagh, Co. Kerry. Mary was born about 1869 in probably Knockbrack, Duagh, Co. Kerry.

According to the 1911 census, James and Mary had been married for 14 years and had six children born alive, all of whom were alive at the time of the census.

Marriage Notes:

Witnesses were Martin Sheehy and James Harrington.

James and Mary had the following children:

  345 M i
James HARRINGTON was born about 1898 in probably Kilbaha, Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

We know of a James Harrington, known as Sonny, who lived in the old Harrington family home in Kilbaha and later on Bridge Road in Listowel and who died on 18 January 1980. Sonny had a sister named Hannah who was married to a Mr. Shanahan, so it's very likely that Sonny was James above. We also know that Sonny had a Harrington uncle who emigrated to Australia (possibly settling in Victoria) around the 1880s. This uncle married and had a family, including a son named James.
  346 M ii
Patrick HARRINGTON was born about 1899 in probably Kilbaha, Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

Patrick emigrated to the United States in 1922. According to Ellis Island records he was joining a cousin, James Nolan, in Brooklyn, New York. Patrick's younger brother Matthew joined him in New York a year later.
+ 347 F iii Hanora (Hannah) HARRINGTON was born about 1900 and died 17 Apr 1992.
  348 M iv John HARRINGTON
  349 M v
Matthew HARRINGTON was born about 21 Jul 1904 in Kilbaha, Moyvane, Co. Kerry and was christened 23 Jul 1904 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. He died date unknown.

From a search of Ellis Island records, it appears Matthew emigrated to the United States in 1923. However Matthew's father's name on the ship manisfest is given as Thomas (of Kilbaha) rather than James Harrington. Nevertheless, given the Kilbaha connection and the fact that both our Matthew and the Matthew from the Ellis Island record were 19 years of age and had a brother named Patrick who had already emigrated to the States (the Ellis Island record tells us that Matthew was joining his brother Patrick of 154 East 97th St. in New York), I'm inclined to believe the father's name on the Ellis Island record is an error and that it was our Matthew above who emigrated to the Unikted States in 1923.

However there's a complication in that I have come across a Matthew Harrington of Kilbaha who married a Jane (Janie) Egan from Tarbert, Co. Kerry about 1900. She was a daughter of John Egan and Catherine McMahon who, it appears, emigrated to Chicago when their children were young (this from a RootsWeb posting relating to the Egan family). It's possible this Matthew was our Matthew above. If so, Matthew and Janie may have returned to Ireland as a Matthew Harrington of Kilbaha, who died on 5 November 1973, is buried in Ahavoher Cemetery, Moyvane; and in a separate grave in the same cemetery is buried Janie Harrington (née Egan) of Kilbaha, who died on 27 February 1973.
