Garrett ran the Mulvihill family farm in Shronowen.

Tom was a member of the Old IRA. He later became a member of Kerry County Council, and was well known in the Moyvane area.

Thomas married Ellen (Nell) SHINE, daughter of Daniel SHINE and Bridget AHERN (caution: not verified), in 1928. Ellen was born 1 Jul 1905 in Kilbaha, Moyvane, Co. Kerry and was christened 6 Jul 1905 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. She died 16 Jul 1972 in Moyvane village, Co. Kerry and was buried in Ahavoher Cemetery, Gale Bridge, Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

It's a possibility that Nell may have been descended from the family of Shines of Cork origin who were coopers and who had settled in Kilbaha (time unknown). According to Dan Keane's piece on www.moyvane.com entitled Trades in Moyvane, two brothers and a sister came from Cork and settled in Kilbaha where they carried on a cooper business. Their initial residence was a farm later owned by direct descendant Bill Shine and later still by his son known as Connie Bill Shine (the farm was subsequently sold). Apparently the Shines of Dirreen and Athea, both in Co. Limerick, are also descended from the Shines who came to Kilbaha.
