We can trace our Butler family back to George Butler (born about 1795) who was a musical instrument maker in Dublin. About 1830 he moved to London where he opened a musical instrument shop in Covent Garden, later moving the business to Haymarket. George and his Dublin-born wife, Margaret Meade (or Nead), had nine children, including George (also a musical instrument maker) and Elizabeth, whose descendants are pictured below.
