William Buckley Brown, pictured here with his wife, Maggie (née Beverley), was born in Kinnethmont, Aberdeenshire in 1886 to George Buckley and Isabella Brown. George was a grandson of Irish musical instrument maker George Butler.

William’s father, George Buckley, was born in Covent Garden, London in 1861, the youngest child of John Buckley, a musical instrument maker, and Dublin-born Elizabeth Butler, daughter of musical instrument maker George Butler.

Elizabeth died when her son George was about three years of age and it appears John, her husband, may have died not long afterwards, resulting in George's adoption by a Charlotte Brett of Huntly, Aberdeenshire, where George was raised (his siblings remained in London). The exact circumstances of the adoption are unknown.

George’s son William, pictured here, who was known throughout his life as Buckley Broon, married Maggie in Aberdeen in 1909 and they had 11 children. William died in 1969 at the age of 82.

William was a first cousin once removed of Mary and Jane Butler (see previous photos).
