Fr. John Doody and his sister Mary, who was known as Girlie, were grandchildren of Michael Doody and Johanna Quirke.
They are pictured here at the wedding (in the 1930s?) of Jerry Hedigan and their cousin Mary Roche (the grandmother of Fr. John and Girlie on their mother's side was a member of the Roche family).
Pictured from left to right are: Standing: Jim Roche, unknown but it's been suggested that it's Paddy, Tom or Jim Doody who were brothers of Fr. John and Girlie, Nell O'Donnell (née Roche), Fr. John, Maurice Roche, Girlie, unknown but it's been suggested that it's Paddy, Tom or Jim Doody, and Garrett Roche. Seated: unknown Hedigan, unknown Hedigan, Jerry Hedigan, Mary Roche (sister of the Roches behind), unknown Hedigan and unknown Hedigan.
The parents of Fr. John and Girlie, Mike Doody from Ardnamoher, Galbally, Co. Limerick and Mary Leonard from Kilworth, Co. Cork, lived after their marriage in the Wellington Road area of Cork. Girlie, who never married, lived with her parents; and Fr. John became a parish priest, serving at Ss. Peter & Paul in Cork and later in Schull and Kilbrittain, Co. Cork.
