Stephen Hussey was born in Hammersmith, London in 1895 to James Hussey and Jane Butler (see earlier photos), both of whom had Irish backgrounds: Stephen's paternal great-grandfather William Hussey had emigrated from Co. Kerry to London in the 1820s and joined the Metropolitan Police, and his maternal grandfather George Butler had moved from Dublin to London about 1830 to expand his musical instrument making business.
Stephen himself - following service in World War I - became a builder and eventually formed a company with two of his brothers, Martin and Austin, that specialised in the construction of churches, schools and convents.
Stephen married Irish-born Mary Ryan in 1922 and they lived most of their married life in Barnes in London. They had four daughters: Maureen, Sheila, Una and Brigid (known as Brigie). After Stephen retired he moved to Dublin (Mary had died some years earlier) where he lived with his daughter Sheila. He died in Dublin in 1978.
Stephen was a nephew of Thomas and Harry Hussey, a brother of Michael and Philip Hussey and a double first cousin of Bob, Ted and Laurie Hussey (see earlier photos).
