Mary Hussey (née Butler) was born in Kensington, London in 1865, the second of five children of London musical instrument maker George Butler and his wife, Jane Lynch. In 1886 Mary married Thomas Hussey (see previous photo), whose brother James was to marry Mary's younger sister Jane five years later. Mary and Thomas lived initially in Albert Hall Mansions in Kensington (which were built by Thomas's father) before moving to Hammersmith, London. They had seven children: Mamie, Tom, Kate, Bob, Ted, Laurie and Eileen.
