Lawrence Morahan, son of Owen and Margaret Morahan, was born in Cloonfeacle, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim in 1881. He trained as a teacher before emigrating to the U.S. sometime between 1903 and 1906. In the States he worked in Montana as a publisher of the Irish nationalist newspaper The Butte Independent. In 1911 he moved to Houston, Texas where he lived for many years before returning to live in Ireland. He was married to Molly Hurley who died in Galway in 1951. Lawrence died in Dublin in 1970.
