Other Families

In the course of my research, I have picked up valuable information on a number of families which are either connected by marriage to our own families, or which I believe, but cannot prove, are blood-related to us. Additional information would be most welcome as I am always delighted to include the history of families connected to us by marriage as well as that of families who may be blood-related to us. For information on all these other families, in the form of either a detailed Descendant Report or a simple Descendant List, please click on one of the names below:

Descendant Reports (Descendant Lists below)

County

Surname

Townland/Parish

Connection

Cork

O’Sullivan/Sullivan

Caheraveelane, Kilshannig

This family, who came from the same sparsely populated townland as our Sullivan family, may be related to our Sullivans.

Donegal

Lynch

Binion, Clonmany

Mamie Lynch married Tom McDonnell, son of Lizzie Gordon, about 1930. Tom was my husband’s first cousin once removed.

Morrison

Straid, Clonmany

Catherine Morrison’s daughter, Mamie Lynch, married Lizzie Gordon’s son, Tom McDonnell, about 1930. Tom was my husband’s first cousin once removed.

Kerry

Dore/Dower

Moyvane South, Newtownsandes (Moyvane), with probable origins in Templeglantine, Co. Limerick

Brigie Dore married my great-granduncle Richie Cunningham in 1892

Finucane

Ardmore, Carhoonakineely, Tarbert

My great-great-great-grandmother Margaret Finucane is supposedly connected to this family but I don’t know how.

Finucane

Ardmore, Carhoonakineely, Tarbert

This is another Finucane family from Ardmore that may be connected to our Finucane family and/or to the Finucane family above. Those members of this family who emigrated to the United States changed their name to Finnigan.

Hudson

Tralee

This family is definitely connected to our Hudson family from Kilbaha, Moyvane (Newtownsandes) but I have been unable to determine the exact relationship.

Stack

Gortdromasillihy, Moyvane (Newtownsandes)

Tom Stack married my great-great-aunt Ellie Shanahan in 1884

Mayo

McDonnell

Corgarriff, Kilmovee

John McDonnell married my husband’s great-aunt Lizzie Gordon in 1892.

Roscommon

Gordon

either Kilgarriff or Sheepwalk, Fairymount (Tibohine)

This family came from either the same townland as our Gordon family (Kilgarriff) or from one very close by; and as with our own Gordons, the name Cormac was traditional. A blood connection is likely.

Tipperary

Carew

Soloheadbeg (from where most of the family emigrated to Newfoundland)

It’s possible Edmond Carew (born 1820) from this family was my great-great-grandfather, Edmond Carew, who was also born about 1820 in Soloheadbeg.
