Thomas Treacy was born in Murgasty in Tipperary town in 1881. He was one of six sons (there were no daughters) of Thomas Treacy and Mary Carey/Carew, both of Soloheadbeg, Co. Tipperary.
This photo of Thomas and his wife, Ellen (née O’Sullivan and from Mourneabbey, Co. Cork), was taken on their wedding day in 1915. After their marriage they lived in Carrick-on-Suir, Co. Tipperary where Thomas was manager, and later owner, of the gasworks.
None of Thomas's five brothers had children: two, both named John, appear to have died very young; both Edmund (who is believed to have died in the 1906 San Francisco earthquake) and Timmy (who lived in Co. Cavan) never married; Martin (who lived in Fermoy, Co. Cork) did marry but had no children.
Thomas and Ellen had four children: Patrick (who died as an infant), Joan (later known as Jo-Ann), Sheila and Noel. Thomas died in Carrick in 1969 and Ellen three years later.
