258. James (Jim) Joseph GORDON (Michael GORDON , Cormac GORDON , Patrick GORDON , Anne ) was born 1924 in Ballaghaderreen, Co. Roscommon. He died 13 Nov 2006.

James emigrated to England where he worked as a publican in London. He and his wife, Mary, retired to Mary's home county of Cavan in the 1970s.

James married Mary Ellen TULLY on 6 Nov 1949 in St. Peter's Italian Church, Clerkenwell Road, London. Mary was born in Ballyhaise, Co. Cavan. She died 16 Feb 2006.

Mary and James met in London where they were both employed in the pub trade. Early in their marriage they ran a pub in Finsbury Park and later moved on to the Goldhawk in Shepherd's Bush. Then they ran the Essex Serpent in Covent Garden and later the Belsize Tavern in Belsize Park. Their last pub prior to retirement was The Pineapple in Kentish Town.

Mary's two sisters and their husbands were publicans too: Peggy and her husband, Joe McManus, had a pub in the City, and Kitty and her husband, Martin Sweeney, also ran a pub in London.
