Marion married Louis LE ROUX. Louis was born 1890 in Lannion, Brittany, France. He died 5 Aug 1944 in London and was buried 10 Aug 1944 in Surbiton, Surrey.
Louis always signed his name Louis N. Le Roux (his middle name was Napoléon). He was a fervent supporter of the Breton separatist movement, co-founding the Breton Nationalist Party in 1911. At the outbreak of World War I he fled to Switzerland to avoid conscription into the French army. Louis had always followed nationalist developments in Ireland with interest and it appears he visited Ireland for the first time about 1930 to see the grave of United Irishmen leader Wolfe Tone (in Bodenstown Cemetery in Co. Kildare). It's not known if he met Marion on this trip or when he moved to Ireland a couple of years later.
Louis was the author of the first biography of Irish nationalist Padraic Pearse which was first published, in French, in Britanny in 1932. It was translated into English shortly afterwards. After his move to Ireland he began working on a book about another Irish nationalist entitled 'Tom Clarke and the Irish Freedom Movement', published in 1936. In 1939 Louis and Marion moved from Ireland (Dublin?) to London where Louis died in 1944 following a heart attack suffered during a German bombing raid.

Georgina married John Raymond (Toby) ASHWELL-COOKE, son of J. A. ASHWELL-COOKE, on 4 Mar 1937 in St. Mary Magdalen's Church, Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex. John was born about 1907. He died about 1972.
Toby was an aviation expert. He was a founder of the London Gliding Club, a qualified pilot with his own small plane, and the author of a number of technical books on aviation, including 'Motorless Flight' (1932).
It's not known where Toby was born but he may have lived in Bexhill-on-Sea in East Sussex prior to his marriage. He was the youngest son in the Ashwell-Cooke family. |
