36. Jane O'HARA (Laurence , William , Laurence ) was born about 14 Jun 1848 in Cloongreahen, Cootehall, Co. Roscommon and was christened 14 Jun 1848. She died 1922 in Ardgallagher, Kilmore, Co. Roscommon. Sponsors at Jane's baptism were William O'Hara and Brigid Mulloy. More detail on the descendants of Jane and her husband, Patrick Lavin, is available in "Ancestral Quest, Tracing my Ancestors in Ireland", a book published in 2008 by Patrick Lavin, a grandson of Patrick and Jane. The book also contains information on the Sligo origins of Jane's O'Hara ancestors who settled in Cootehall about 1800.

	162	M	xii	Kieran Patrick (Fr. Damian) LAVIN was born 3 May 1892 in Ardgallagher, Kilmore, Co. Roscommon. He died 21 Oct 1918 in Mount Argus, Dublin. Kieran became a priest, taking the name Fr. Damian. Following his ordination he went to England where he did missionary work. He was only 26 years of age when he died from complications resulting from diabetes.

The 1930 census lists him as a member of the household of his brother Charles and tells us he was a collector for the railroad.

				William married Florence (Dolly) WHITNEY, daughter of James WHITNEY and Mary Jane MOLLOY. Florence was born in possibly Ballyfermoyle, Cootehall, Co. Roscommon. She died about 1985 in Australia. Florence was widowed young. She later remarried and had children. The family subsequently emigrated to Australia which became home for all of Florence's siblings.

48. Mary (Mud) O'HARA (William , William , Laurence ) was born about 22 Jun 1863 in Cootehall, Co. Roscommon and was christened 22 Jun 1863. She died 18 Dec 1941 in Dublin and was buried in Glasnevin Cemetery, Dublin. Sponsors at Mud's baptism were James Boyde and Maria Berne.

Mary married Patrick (Pa) O'HARA, son of James O'HARA and Mary SCALES, on 5 Apr 1885 in Cootehall, Co. Roscommon. Patrick was born 2 Apr 1859 in Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh. He died 2 Dec 1951 in Skerries, Co. Dublin and was buried 4 Dec 1951 in Glasnevin Cemetery, Dublin. Pa joined the RIC (Royal Irish Constabulary) on 13 December 1876 and retired from the force on 14 August 1920. From his retirement parchment we know that Pa at age 61 years and five months was 5' 11" with grey hair and grey eyes. According to his marriage certificate, Pa was living in the townland of Derreenavoggy in Boyle, Co. Roscommon at the time of his marriage in 1885.  At the time of the 1911 census, Pa and his family were living in Kinnegad, Co. Westmeath. Pa and Mud are believed to have been cousins. According to the 1911 census, Pa and Mud had 14 children born alive, only nine of whom were still alive at the time of the census. The family, who lived in Kinnegad, Co. Westmeath at the time of the 1911 census, eventually moved Skerries, Co. Dublin. Marriage Notes: Witnesses were William [surname illegible] and Eliza Leyland.

50. Elizabeth O'HARA (Robert , William , Laurence ) was born about 23 Feb 1858 in Glooria, Cootehall, Co. Roscommon and was christened 23 Feb 1858. She died 3 Feb 1931 in Napier, New Zealand. Matthew Blair of Wellington, New Zealand has kindly provided me with the information below on Elizabeth's family. Further information on the Jeffares family is available on Matthew's website, www.coemccashin.tribalpages.com.   Sponsors at Elizabeth's baptism were William O'Hara and Elizabeth Keveny. Elizabeth emigrated to New Zealand as a young woman and settled in Napier. Elizabeth died in the Napier earthquake of 1931 which killed a total of 256 people and devastated the Hawke's Bay area.

He died 22 days later (probably a victim of the 1919 influenza pandemic) before he could take up his seat.

69. William J. O'HARA (Roger (Rossy) , William , Laurence ) was born about 9 Jul 1873 in Cootehall, Co. Roscommon and was christened 9 Jul 1873. He died 26 Nov 1931 in Philadelphia and was buried 1 Dec 1931 in Holy Cross Cemetery, Philadelphia. Sponsors at William's baptism were Patrick O'Hara and Joanna O'Hara. A William James O'Hara from Cootehall, Co. Roscommon emigrated to the United States in 1897 aged 24. Our William was born in 1973 (which would have made him 24 years of age in 1897) and he had a brother named Joseph (the William who emigrated also had a brother named Joseph), so it's very likely that it was our William who arrived in Philadelphia from Ireland on 25 April 1897. The William who emigrated was met on his arrival in Philadelphia by a "cousin" named Hubert O'Hara. We don't know exactly how Hubert (or Hugh, as he was also known) was related to William. He arrived in New York on 16 February 1893 aged 25 and it's thought he emigrated from Co. Roscommon. His occupation was given on the ship manifest as "coachman" but by 1894 Hubert was working in Philadelphia as a bartender. On 4 May 1898, in Philadelphia, he married Rose Gallagher (born in Ireland in 1873) and they had eight children: Mary (born March 1899), Margaret (about 1900), Rosanna (about 1901), Elizabeth (about 1903), Helen (about 1905), Teresa (1910), Hugh (lived 1912-1915) and Frances. Two of their daughters joined the Sisters of St. Joseph, becoming Sr. Ann de Lourdes and Sr. Rose Mystica. Hubert died on 17 June 1943. A birth record was located on the FamilySearch website (Irish Civil Registration pages) for a Hugh O'Hara who was born in the Carrick-on-Shannon registration district of Co. Roscommon in 1870. It's possible this record relates to William's cousin Hubert. Shortly after his arrival in Philadelphia, William also found work as a bartender. He eventually ran his own saloon in Philadelphia and his cousin Hugh became a liquor dealer. Both were very successful businessmen and their families lived comfortable lives. Even during Prohibition (1920-1933) William was able to continue in business by making his own liquor in the basement of his home which his daughters would transport to the saloon a few blocks away. It's not known how Hugh managed during this period.      William's grandson Jerry Dallahan tells us that William had a sister named Mary back in Ireland and that he had a cousin, Rev. Robert E. McKeon, living in St. Louis, Missouri.

William married Susan (Susie) MCMENAMIN, daughter of Patrick MCMENAMIN, on 29 Apr 1903 in St. Charles Boromeo Church, Kellyville, Pennsylvania. Susan was born 7 May 1876 in Kellyville, Pennsylvania. She died 21 Oct 1959 in 323 Long Lane, Stonehurst, Pennsylvania and was buried 24 Oct 1959 in Holy Cross Cemetery, Philadelphia. William and Susan had eight grandchildren, including a Brother Manus Borromeo.

				Margaret married Joseph RAINIER in Oct 1945 in St. Alice Church, Upper Derby, Pennsylvania. Joseph was born 3 Nov 1911 in Philadelphia. He died 29 Mar 1976 in Pennsylvania and was buried in Holy Cross Cemetery, Philadelphia. Margaret and Joseph lived in Millbourne, Pennsylvania.
