I'm told Patrick and Elizabeth lived in Cootehall, Co. Roscommon. There's a 1911 census return for the household of a Pat and Lizzie Flynn in Cooladye, Oakport, Co. Roscommon, not far from Cootehall. Leitrim-born Pat, aged 40, and Roscommon-born Lizzie, aged 34, had been married for one year. I think it's likely Pat and Lizzie are our Patrick Flynn and Elizabeth O'Hara.

They had the following children:

Witnesses to Mary's marriage to Cormac Gordon were John Gordon and Belinda Morahan. Presumably Belinda was Mary's sister, Linda.

Mary died in hospital in Dublin following complications from an operation carried out at either a Dublin hospital or the hospital in Castlerea, Co. Roscommon.

133. Michael Joseph MORAHAN (Margaret O'HARA , Laurence , Laurence ) was born 13 Jul 1879 in Cloonfeacle, Kiltoghert, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim and was christened 14 Jul 1879 in Kiltoghert, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim. He died 7 Mar 1959 in Denver, Colorado.

I'M INDEBTED TO DAN MORAHAN OF PINE, COLORADO FOR ALL HIS HELP WITH MY MORAHAN RESEARCH.

Sponsors at Michael's baptism were William O'Hara and Mary Ellen Doyle.

Michael worked on the railroads in Ireland and England prior to emigrating to the United States where from 1903 to 1948 he worked as an locomotive engineer with Chicago, Burlington & Quincy in Lincoln, Nebraska. Michael returned to Ireland in 1910 in Ireland to marry Emily Logan. The following month Michael returned to Lincoln and Emily lived with her in-laws until she joined her husband in the United States a year later. According to the ship manifest, Michael lived at the time at 33 S. 10th St., Lincoln.

Michael and Emily later moved to Denver, Colorado, where Michael worked for Colorado Southern. He was engineer on the first diesel engine used by Colorado Southern in Colorado.

Note: Michael had a cousin named Patrick Mullany who lived in New York City in 1910. According to Ellis Island records Michael was going to join Patrick in New York prior to his return to Nebraska. It's possible Michael may have been related to Patrick through his aunt, Ellen O'Hara, who was married to a Patrick MULLEANY. Perhaps Ellen and Patrick had a son named Patrick who emigrated to the United States. There's another MULLEANY connection in that Patrick O'Hara who was Ellen's first cousin once removed was married to a Mary Jane Mulleany.

Michael married Emily Marion LOGAN, daughter of John Joseph LOGAN and Anne (Annie) Josephine MCPARTLAND, on 7 Sep 1910 in St. Patrick's Church, Galway. Emily was born 22 May 1884 in Greatmeadow, Boyle, Co. Roscommon and was christened 1 Jun 1884 in Boyle, Co. Roscommon. She died 7 Jul 1966 in Denver, Colorado and was buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Golden, Colorado.

Sponsors at Emily's baptism were John McHugh and and Honora Connaughton.

It's known that Emily and Joseph were somehow related. The connection seems to be through the Meehans: Emily's grandfather on her father's side married a Winifred Meehan who, it's thought, was closely related to (perhaps a sister of) Ellen Meehan who was Michael's grandmother on his mother's side. If Winifred and Ellen were indeed sisters, this would have made Emily and Michael second cousins.

Emily used to sign her name as Emily Maurine Morahan so it's possible her middle name may have been Maurine rather than Marion.

Emily died in the Mercy Hospital in Denver.

They had the following children:

  269 F i
Florence Camilla MORAHAN was born 18 Jul 1912 in Lincoln, Nebraska. She died 9 Feb 2003 in Westminster, Colorado and was buried 15 Feb 2003 in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Golden, Colorado.

Gerald  was ordained a priest  in the Order of Preachers (Dominicans) in 1952 in Dubuque, Iowa. His religious name was Bertrand and he spent his entire ministry working in parishes, beginning at St. Margaret Parish, Boyce, Louisiana. In 1956 he was assigned to St. Vincent Ferrer parish, River Forest, Illinois, and in 1958 he was sent to Holy Name parish, Kansas City, Missouri. In 1970 he returned to St. Vincent Ferrer parish, where he spent the next 13 years, after which he began ministry at a new parish, St. Gertrude's, in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. He served there as an associate pastor until his death 15 years later.

135. Bridget Linda (Linda) MORAHAN (Margaret O'HARA , Laurence , Laurence ) was born Mar 1883 in Cloonfeacle, Kiltoghert, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. 139. Thomas (Tom) J. MORAHAN (Margaret O'HARA , Laurence , Laurence ) was born 24 Jan 1891 in Cloonfeacle, Kiltoghert, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim and was christened 25 Jan 1891 in Kiltoghert, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim. He died 3 Apr 1949 in Dublin.

Thomas was a primary school teacher. In 1912 he was appointed principal of Annaduff National School outside Carrick-on-Shannon. However the locals objected to the job going to an outsider, so they organised a boycott. A drum would sound in protest every morning at 10 o'clock; parents withdrew their children and sent them to other schools further away; the school was broken into and record books were taken; and Tom had to escorted to and from school by gardaí from Dromad and Dromsna stations. Tensions ran high for at least a year, but, thanks to the intervention of another teacher in the school, parents eventually started sending their children back, and Tom continued to teach at Annaduff until shortly before his death in 1949.

Tom died in a nursing home in Dublin. According to his obituary in the Leitrim Observer he was buried in Glasnevin Cemetery but this is not correct. It's possible Tom was buried in his native Co. Leitrim.

Thomas married Mary LAYDEN / LEYDEN, daughter of Michael LAYDEN, on 7 Aug 1918 in St. Patrick's Church, Drumkeeran, Co. Leitrim. Mary died after 10 Apr 1949.

Mary was a member of the Layden family which owned the Arigna coalmine in Co. Roscommon. According to her marriage certificate, she was a primary school teacher from Spencer Harbour; her father was a farmer. Witnesses to the marriage were Joseph Doyle and Tessie Layden. It's believed Mary and Tom were in some way related but it's not known exactly how. They lived in the old Morahan family home in Cloonfeacle until Tom's death in 1949 (the 23-acre farm had been sold in the 1930s). It's thought Mary may have moved to Dublin after Tom's death in 1949.

Bernadette died suddenly while at secondary school at the Dominican Convent in Dun Laoghaire.

142. Evelyn Mary O'HARA (Laurence , Laurence , Laurence ) was born about 13 Jul 1889 in probably Clegna, Cootehall, Co. Roscommon and was christened 13 Jul 1889 in Cootehall, Co. Roscommon. She died 1954.

Evelyn married James (Jim) GLYNN. James was born in Boyle, Co. Roscommon. He died date unknown.

Evelyn and Jim lived in Cootehall, Co. Roscommon.

Note: There's a record of a marriage of a Thomas Glynn and Elizabeth Logan in Cootehall on 16 February 1880. Thomas's father's name was Patrick and Thomas's address was given as what looks like "Cuidera". Is it possible that Jim and Thomas might have been related?
