Bridget married William (Bill) BUCKLEY, son of 'unknown' BUCKLEY, on 25 Feb 1905 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. William was born about 1870 in probably Glenalappa, Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

I'm told Bridie and Bill lived in Aughrim, Moyvane. A 1911 census return has been found for their household and although it's in Glenalappa West, which adjoins Aughrim to the south, the record almoat certainly relates to our Bridie and Bill as their daughters' names match.

14. Mary COLLINS (Mary SHANAHAN , John ) was born about 14 Sep 1866 in Ahalahana, Moyvane, Co. Kerry and was christened 16 Sep 1866 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. She died between about 1907 and 1911.

Baptismal sponsors were James Shanahan and Mary Woulfe.

Mary married William (Willie) WALSH, son of William WALSH and Mary 'UNKNOWN', on 19 Feb 1901 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. William was born possibly 1873 in probably Doonard, Tarbert, Co. Kerry. He died after 2 Apr 1911.

A 1911 census return has been located for Willie's household in Doonard Upper in Tarbert which tells us he was a widower at this time. The fact that his wife, Mary, had died may account for the fact that two of their children (William and James) are listed in the 1911 census return for the household of their uncle Jer Collins, indicating that Jer and his siblings may have been helping to raise them. It's known that Willie later remarried.

I was originally told that Willie was from Marble Hole in Tarbert. I was never able to determine where exactly Marble Hole was located but, having come across the marriage record of Mary and Willie (on www.irishgenealogy.ie), I believe it to be in the townland of Doonard where Willie was living prior to his marriage.

16. Jeremiah (Jer) COLLINS (Mary SHANAHAN , John ) was born 8 Dec 1872 in Ahalahana, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. He died 2 Oct 1949.

Jeremiah married Mary MULLANE, daughter of Patrick MULLANE and Margaret KEARNEY, about 1912. Mary was born about 1879 in Dirreen, Athea, Co. Limerick. She died 25 Sep 1967.

Jer and Mary farmed in Murhur, Moyvane.

20. Ellen (Ellie) COLLINS (Mary SHANAHAN , John ) was born about 22 Jun 1884 in Ahalahana, Moyvane, Co. Kerry and was christened 24 Jun 1884 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

Baptismal sponsors were John Collins and Bridget Connor.

Ellen married Thomas (Tom) MOORE after 2 Apr 1911. Thomas was born in Glenalappa, Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

21. Catherine (Babe) SHANAHAN (Richard , John ) was born 10 Nov 1891 in Kilbaha, Moyvane, Co. Kerry and was christened 14 Nov 1891 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. She died 24 Jan 1986 in Lisaniskea, Knockanure, Co. Kerry and was buried in Old Cemetery, Knockanure, Co. Kerry.

Babe's baptismal sponsors were Nicholas Madden and Mary Collins.

Babe was only about 13 when her mother died. She helped raise her younger siblings.

Catherine married John (Jack Bill) O'CONNOR, son of William O'CONNOR and Johanna CUNNINGHAM, on 4 Mar 1916 in Newtownsandes (Moyvane), Co. Kerry. John was born 25 May 1876 in Kilbaha, Moyvane, Co. Kerry and was christened 5 Jun 1876 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. He died 8 Nov 1959 in probably Kilbaha, Moyvane, Co. Kerry and was buried in Old Cemetery, Knockanure, Co. Kerry.

The sponsors at Jack Bill's baptism were (what appears to be) William Hanrahan and Johanna Hanrahan.

Jack Bill ran the O'Connor family farm.

Witnesses to the marriage of Jack Bill and Babe were Patrick Finucane and Ellie Shanahan (probably Babe's sister).

According to their son Dick, the marriage of Jack Bill and Babe was arranged, a practice common at the time.

22. Ellen (Ellie) SHANAHAN (Richard , John ) was born 4 Aug 1893 in Kilbaha, Moyvane, Co. Kerry and was christened 5 Aug 1893 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. She died 19 Apr 1991 in Drommurhur, Moyvane, Co. Kerry and was buried in Ahavoher Cemetery, Gale Bridge, Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

Ellie's baptismal sponsors were Edward Stack and Mary Woulfe.

Ellen married Robert (Bob) STACK, son of 'unknown' STACK and Sarah 'UNKNOWN'. Robert was born about 1883 in Drommurhur, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. He died 20 Nov 1957 in Drommurhur, Moyvane, Co. Kerry and was buried in Knockanure Cemetery, Co. Kerry.

Ellie and Bob farmed in Drommurhur (also spelled Dromurhur), Moyvane.

Bridget's baptismal sponsors were Martin Collins and Mary Collins.

Bridget was only about 51 years of age when she died.

Bridget married Michael (Mick) J. HANRAHAN, son of John HANRAHAN and Margaret CUNNINGHAM. Michael was born 19 Apr 1892 in Kilbaha, Moyvane, Co. Kerry and was christened 21 Apr 1892 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. He died 11 Jun 1967 and was buried in Ahavoher Cemetery, Gale Bridge, Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

Mick's baptismal sponsors were Michael Moran and Honora Moran.

Mick was also known as "Mickeen John Paddy" (because his father was John and his grandfather was Paddy). He was well known in the area for his ability to cure ringworm, this knowledge apparently having been passed down to him by his father. When people would come to him with ringworm, he would apply to the skin a mixture made up mostly of unsalted butter, but nobody knows what he put into the butter to make the cure.

Jack's baptismal sponsors were Thomas Healy and Elizabeth Healy.

John married Winifred (Winnie) O'CARROLL, daughter of Jeremiah (Jer) O'CARROLL and Margaret LYNCH. Winifred was born 29 Oct 1907 in Gortdromagowna, Knockanure, Co. Kerry and was christened 31 Oct 1907 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. She died 10 Aug 2001 in Kilbaha, Moyvane, Co. Kerry and was buried in Ahavoher Cemetery, Gale Bridge, Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

John and Winnie lived in Kilbaha, Moyvane.

27. John J. SHANAHAN (James , John ) was born about 1893 in Kilbaha, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. He died 7 Jan 1968 and was buried in Ahavoher Cemetery, Gale Bridge, Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

John married Hanora (Hannah) HARRINGTON, daughter of James HARRINGTON and Mary KENNELLY, about 1938. Hanora was born about 1900 in probably Kilbaha, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. She died 17 Apr 1992 and was buried in Ahavoher Cemetery, Gale Bridge, Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

Hannah and John lived in Kilbaha.

Note from Helen: I am not 100% sure that Hannah's parents were indeed James Harrington and Mary Kennelly of Kilbaha, but I am making the assumption that thery were, based on the fact that their daughter Hannah was born around the same time as John Shanahan's wife, Hannah Harrington, i.e., around 1900, and the fact that it seems that James and Mary's daughter was the only Hannah Harrington of approximately 10 years of age living in the Newtownsandes area at the time of the 1911 census.

29. Catherine (Kathleen) O'SULLIVAN (Bridget SHANAHAN , John ) was born 6 Feb 1891 in Aughrim, Moyvane, Co. Kerry and was christened 8 Feb 1891 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. She died 31 May 1974 and was buried in Ahavoher Cemetery, Gale Bridge, Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

Baptismal sponsors were Edmund O'Sullivan and Margaret O'Sullivan.

Kathleen was only four years of age when her mother died and seven when she lost her father. She and her younger sister Mary were raised in Ahalahana, Moyvane after their parents' death by their aunt Mary Collins (née Shanahan) and her husband, Bill. Kathleen and Mary are listed with Mary and Bill's family in the 1901 census, and in the 1911 census as members of the household of Mary and Bill's son Jer Collins.

Catherine married James (Jim) SHEEHY, son of 'unknown' SHEEHY. James was born about 1884 in Glenalappa, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. He died 10 May 1970 and was buried in Ahavoher Cemetery, Gale Bridge, Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

Jim was a brother of Paddy, the husband of Kathleen's sister Teresa.

31. Mary STACK (Ellen (Ellie) SHANAHAN , John ) was born 3 Jan 1885 in Ballygoughlan, Glin, Co. Limerick. She died 1 Feb 1966 in Killacolla, Glin, Co. Limerick and was buried in Kilfergus Cemetery, Glin, Co. Limerick.

Mary married David (Davy) MOORE, son of Thomas MOORE and Jane ("Mudsy") JAMESON "Mudsy", on 10 Feb 1912. David was born 1877 in Ballyculhane, Glin, Co. Limerick. He died 1955 in possibly Ballyculhane, Glin, Co. Limerick.

Davy and Mary farmed in Ballyculhane, Glin.

Davy's father, Thomas Moore, kept good hunting dogs and was a crack shot, and he regularly accompanied the Knight of Glin (of Glin Castle) on his hunting and shooting expeditions. In fact he was one of the few allowed to shoot in the grounds on his own. He was such a good shot that much of his kill would end up on the Knight's table at the castle and, at times, at Royal tables in England. When the Knight, notwithstanding their close friendship, asked him for his two dogs, Davy replied, "I will shoot them first, Knight, before you will have them".

32. Edward/Edmond (Ned) STACK (Ellen (Ellie) SHANAHAN , John ) was born 17 Feb 1886 in Ballygoughlan, Glin, Co. Limerick. He died 8 Dec 1939 and was buried in Murhur Cemetery, Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

Edward/Edmond married Josephine (Ciss) RUDDLE on 30 Jul 1921. Josephine died 8 Dec 1931 and was buried in Murhur Cemetery, Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

Ned and Ciss ran the Stack family farm in Ballygoughlan, Glin.
