Our Treacy family came from the parish of Soloheadbeg in Co. Tipperary. It's a possibility that 'unknown' above was named Thomas because it appears that his two sons, John and (probably) Nicholas, named their first-born sons Thomas, probably following the tradition at the time of naming the eldest son after the paternal grandfather.
The Treacy surname is common throughout the country, especially the south east. It's derived from 'O Treasaigh', meaning 'warlike'.
